ok everyone. i need to know how good of an axle and amc 20 out of a wagoneer is.

This is what I know:
the axle tubes are thicker that cj versions, they are six lug, and about the same width as my yj.

this is what i want to know:
what are the lowest gears available?
are the axles one piece or two?
how do the axle tubes compare to a dana 44?
can they handle 35's?

would it be better to just shell out the cash for a 44?

any other information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for all your help

The lowest gears available for the AMC 20 are 4.88s.

The axles are one-piece.

The axles tubes are very similar to the D44.

Yes, they can handle 35's.

Shelling out cash for a D44 depends on what you want to do. In my opinion if you are breaking parts on an SJ AMC 20, then you will still break parts on a D44. But if you want to run lower gears than 4.88 the D44 is the better option. Another thing to consider is that D44's are extremely common so it may be easier to pick up a used locker or gear set for a 44 than it would be for a AMC 20.

Warn makes one for the AMC 20, but I don't think they have one for the Wagoneer 20 only the CJs. So the length of the shafts wouldn't be right and it would be 5 lug instead of 6.
