Does anyone know if the AMC 401's and the 360's have pretty common problems with oil pressure? the reason I ask is because I have one that I just rebuilt, and it has low pressure. I am now replacing the oil pump (at least the two gears, the oil pump is part of the timing cover). Also, I have not yet met a 360 or a 401 that the oil pressure didn't venture to the low side on.

Its tuff to get good constant pressure from that style pump, what you see is typical. How low is it? What kind of gauge is connected?
In my experience you should be happy with 20psi at an idle, off idle is should go up to the pressure set by the bypass spring. This is assuming your reading are from the typical oil galley plug on the front of the block, you would get higher numbers closer to the pump and lower numbers toward the top and further back on the engine.
If you need more pressure you can replace the pump cover with the gears. If you need more volume they make taller gears and a spacer that goes between the cover and the housing.

yep low pressure is normal for thsese pumps.... expesially when the engine gets to normal operating temp... It is not uncommen to be as low as 12-18 psi when at idle.... when you start driving it should pick back up...
