And then Badger

finally buys a quad (so I'm not riding by myself) and I commence the destruction of mine  In two and a half weeks since he got it I've only managed 3 rides... 2 of which I've broke something

First while driving down a snow rutted trail at about 30 in 2 dig I hugged a sharp off camber corner with a tree on the inside point... I hooked the snow bank with my right front and ended up driving sideways with only my left front tire touching the ground... came back to earth sideways against a rock in the bottom of a rut with my left rear tire. After riding far enough down the trail so Badger had room to stop I looked down to see a less than happy wheel. Although it was moving in and out about 5 inches as it turned the bike still handled well and I couldn't feel anything wrong on the snow or dirt, it wasn't until I hit asphalt (about 4 miles later) that I could feel a slight bumping.

Anyway, I happened to have a spare in my truck so I swapped it then found out the hub was slightly bent.... oh well I'm here to ride :D We rode another 40 miles that day, I kept it down to 30 just incase my wheel decided to come off ;)

After I took the hub off I found out that it was cracked from 12 o'clock to about 8 o'clock :ugh:

Then the 3rd ride I decided to explode my belt up Sunshine Canyon (RS and Con ;) ) Did I mention that we had ridden from Cedar Fort?

Shoulda bought the KAwasaki Brute Force...200lbs lighter, more horsepower...and probably over a thousand dollars cheaper.

If you think so...we run our brutes on the Moto-cross track up in wyoming where we work. We regularly get more air than a 600lb utility quad is supposed to...maybe it is that extra weight that brings out the weaknesses in the Polaris.

I like the brute because it more closely resembles the 4wd system in a real 4wd pickup instead of a "Nanny" type 4wd system.

I can turn 4wd on and off at will.

I can select the front locker at will.

I can select Low Range at will.

Nothing is automatic except the CVT, I drive the vehicle instead of an engineer sitting at a drafting table.

I hear the seat is not as soft on the Kawasaki though.

Yawn

I could sit here and spend some of my time explaining to you why you are wrong and school you a bit about the history of atv's but I'm not going to.

Why not?

a) because you wouldn't listen anyway

b) why would I want to cut on something you are obviously happy with

History? ok, go for it.

The kawasaki is lighter, faster, cheaper....what else is there? You got almost useless storage bins, a softer seat (or so I hear), and less money in your wallet. Explain to me how that is the right decision?

Explain to me how you are an expert of all things quad?

How long you been riding? How many miles you got on that thing?

I've got over 13,000 miles on just Sportsmans, not to mention the countless other bikes I've riden in the previous 20 years since I bought my first bike, a 1981 Yamaha 200 3 wheeler. Your wicked air at the dunes dude.... that's what I call what happens when you ride slow up a hill. I ride like a girl compared to how I used to ride (since I hurt my back) and it would still make you cry.

Can you make it from the Rattlesnake parking lot to Cedar Fort riding nothing but dirt in less time than a Cummins can pull a YJ on the highway?

As for history, EVERY automatic atv (except the Honda Rincon and Rubicon) is a cheap knock off of Polaris. Polaris did it all first. And everyone of the other manufacturers scofed at Polaris for doing it, yet every one other than Honda ended up copying Polaris.
