Another tire thread

I know we see lots of tire question threads.

But, wondering what folks' experience has been on tire life of the following:

Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 (set of 4 about $900)

Goodyear Wrangler Durarac (set of 4 about $1,100)

General Grabber AT3 (haven't priced)

Big question is if any of these are a good enough tire for the price to stop me from putting good old BFGs (about $1,100) on my Xterra.

Some people on here don't like the Duratrec's after about 20,000 miles or so. I love the Duratrac for a tire that will see some off road time. I would have them on my jeep if they made them in 37's. (I "had" to get Kevlar mtr's... :( )

My father in law runs a set of 33's on his tj, they are a great Moab tire and a great snowy pavement tire, he ran BFG's on other vehicles and feels they grip better. But he didn't have BFG's on his TJ so it is just a feeling.

My friend who lives out side of Durango (long un-paved county road to his house) will only buy Duratracs, mainly for there snow performance.

All that being said, last summer I put a set of Goodyear Adventure with kevlar on my f350. I didn't feel I needed something that aggressive on a truck that only sees a dirt road when it is towing the jeep around Moab. (they do not do quite as well on snowy roads as the Duratracs, but still do really well)

I guess I am a Goodyear fanboy so don't believe me.

If you like the BFG's get another set, I haven't had a set of BFG's in about 15 years, the first gen KM2 had such a thin sidewall, I tore 8 sidewalls in 2 years, when I switched to the 1st gen MTR the next year I only tore 1 sidewall (that was a 6500lb fullsize Bronco that got in the dirt several times a month). I know that BFG has improved their sidewalls so that isn't an issue anymore, that is just why I switched to Goodyear.

Cooper s/t maxx are another one that keep coming up, no idea on price, last time I looked they were about the same price as the duratrac. I had Goodyear Duratracs on my Trooper and I liked them, plenty of traction in the snow. But I've heard of other people that didn't like them so maybe a vehicle weight vs C rated vs E rated may be a factor.

I'm probably going to put a new set on next month so watching to see what you decide.

Had duratracs on our 2005 4Runner looked great and good in the snow but were annoyingly loud after about half tread. Sold the 4Runner and got a gx460 and put ko2's on it about 10,000 miles ago no noticeable wear and are still as quite as the day I put them on. Both tires were rotated every oil change the only difference is the vehicle the gx is a much more quite inside the cabin stock compared to the 4Runner stock. My vote would be ko2's I'd also look into the Michelin m/s.

That'd be me. I wanted to like them, but I found them to be distinctly average at best. Even the snow/ice performance wasn't anything to write home about, and the tread wear was distinctly sub par. I think we only got two years out of them and I was glad to see them go.

OP didn't ask, but Scott mentioned them so I will say so far I'm really liking the Cooper ST Maxx on the F150. They've got a bit of a hum on the freeway but the treadwear has been great and they've hooked up everywhere without drama. I don't know about price either, I got 255/80r17s for under $200 each but Goodyear doesn't make the Duratrac in that size.

But if you're happy with the BFGs, why switch? The grass isn't always greener.

I have Duratracs on my half ton with 25k on them. No complaints. Wear, noise, snowy road grip, all about what I was expecting. Well, actually, they ARE more quiet than I expected. Have heard many reports of how loud they are. But mine, aren't.

I have KO2's on my LX470 with about 20K on them. No complaints.

Not apples to apples, as the vehicles are quite different. I don't notice the Duratracs making noise at all. I do notice the KO2's making some. But, the cab of my truck is a LOT quieter/better insulated than the LX is. I think the KO2's seem like they are probably a bit quieter, even though they are the ones I sometimes notice - you just hear a lot more outside noise in the Cruiser all around. KO2's are wearing better. Not really fair, the Duratracs spend a good portion of their life towing and hauling. But that Lexus is a pig, weight wise and the KO2's are wearing quite a bit better. KO2's seem to do better on slippery road surfaces. Again, maybe not totally fair, comparing a pickup truck to an SUV.

Anyway... No complaints with either tire. Very happy with both. But when the Duratracs are worn out on the truck, I'm putting KO2's on it...

Totally Awesome
I put some Toyo Terra Grappler G2's on my '13 Ram 2500 Cummins. 305/75/17 E rated

I have to say, they have amazing grip in all conditions, Ice, snow, rain, etc. They have a 50K mile warranty. I have put about 7000 miles on them so far. I love them, they don't even look like they have worn at all so far. Which is pretty good for a 8000 lbs truck. They also are not very expensive. They are quiet on the highway. And also great in dirt and mud. I have yet to find anything to complain about with them.

I've tried a lot of tires on HD trucks. And these are the best so far.
