Any Experience with Ford Powerboost?

So now that I have the JLUR, I am slowly deciding to further bury myself in debt and am looking to replace my '12 F150 SCrew EB. I have really enjoyed the truck for the past 8 years and 120K. I am at the point with the exhaust leak where I either suck it up and pay the $6k or so for that and turbos and have a 12 year old truck and an aging vehicle....or I take that and invest in a newer truck (still used) and driver another 8+years and 120k+ miles.

I have found a 2021 F150 Powerboost I like. It is the same 3.5L ecoboost, that I have liked for the most part...although I have tried to find a V8 with my preferences, but that is proving very difficult.

So does anyone have any experience with the Powerboost? I am thinking I could use the electric motor most days commuting to/from work (about 10 miles each way) I would still have the towing ability, but would sacrifice payload some (not a huge deal to me)

Just trying to get real world feedback on this drivetrain.

My FIL has had one for a few years and likes it. I asked him about it and he said no issues at all but he's also such a die-hard Ford fan that he wouldn't tell me anyways. He did mention that he thinks it's dumb they didn't make it into a plug-in hybrid to make the tax credit available. He's actually avoided the EB due to the known issues and strictly had only v8 trucks for work (roofing), even when his brothers/business partners all got EB's. I was shocked when he got this truck but then again he may not have it long enough/put enough miles on it to have to deal with those issues. YMMV

Research shows these have a 30.6 gallon tank. With increased mog over my '12. EB with the 36 gallon tank, I assume roughly the same range if not a little better with the hybrid?
When I need the bigger tank, it won't be running in electric mode. I guess they needed room for the batteries. I drive one and loved it.

Still on the hunt for a newer F150. I still can't decide o. The Powerboost, plain one 3.5L EB or the V8 Coyote.

Found a loaded Powerboost in Silver which I like but it's a little bit higher then I want to pay plus at the top of my mileage limit. I need to test drive it and see if I like it enough and if there is wiggle room on the price

I woukd certainly entertain a V8 option but they are less common and have less power. I have no real complaints about the EB I've had.

Why do insurance companies total out cars that are stolen without much damage? I found a powerboost with "clean title" meaning no wrecks but it was totalled by the insurance after it was stolen with minor scratched and dings. I get there are uncertainties with it after it's been stolen but with that on the title I am not sure I want to risk it......but the price is pretty dam good

Is this also why there are so many branded titles vehicles now?

Ford has been sending me all kinds of offers for my 21 EcoBoost but none of these offers are 0% interest yet. When that comes around again, my truck will be up for sale. If its their money, I trade up to a newer one.

I ended up finding as '21 Powerboost and picked it up on Monday. So far it's been good. I am still trying to learn it's features and figure it out. It had 32k miles, 3/2 leveling kit, new Toyo AT tires and a Rigid light bar behind the lower valance.. so far the 2 things I wish it had and will miss from my 2012 are the tailgate step and power fold mirrors.

So far I don't have enough seat time without a trailer to know how economical the hybrid is. I pulled my sxs up to Bear Lake yesterday and only got 8.8 mpg. I think my trailer needs new bearings and it is producing a lot of drag. I will be traveling home today sans trailer so I expect over 20 mpg.

The night we picked it up we got 26.7mpg coming from my in-laws in West Jordan to Holladay. With only 300 miles on it since I got it, it's hard to know what to expect.

When I towed with the 3.5 ecoboost, I got single digit MPG. Power comes at a price.
Agreed....but I managed to tow my old SAS'd Rodeo on a car trailer to Moab and back and manage 11.2 in my old '12 EB. This single axle trailer with the sxs I haven't done better than 9.2 and usually hit in the upper 7's or 8's.

I did manage 20.2 on the way home and am trying to understand the systems and when it will switch to electric. This seems to be a better function in town since I have seen way more electric miles last night around town and this morning then the whole trip to Bear Lake.

I filled up my first full track of normal daily driving. I still had 1/4 tank left. Not bad for daily driving. I filled up prior to taking the picture....but 25 gallons to go basically 500 miles with 1/4 tank left

Is there a way to make it not sound like an old video game over a megaphone when you put it in reverse? I'm asking for my neighbor that doesn't want me to vandalize his truck because of the annoying back-up sound...

LOL.

I saw a video on Youtube where a guy removed the speaker behind the bumper....so apparently the sound for electric drive (slight swooshing) and the reverse "pinging" are just routed through a tube speaker behind the rear bumper.

I swear to you that thing can be heard from a block away. I don’t get why the electric vehicles have to be made louder than ICE vehicles. I get the idea of making sound for safety sake but they’re louder for sure.
