Yeah but his dad is nuts so there is that. My 7 year old won't even ride his bike off the curb, he stands up and walks over the ledge 🙄

I've always been a Shimano guy, past bikes that came with Eagle NX got converted to SLX or XT pretty much right away. The New Hotness came with GX so I decided to give it a shot. My experiment might be almost over. The cassette is getting pretty worn and I've limped it through the winter but it's time for a new one. Conversations on Reddit and the forums all seem to agree that the GX cassette is a a boat anchor and does not last, and the X01 or XX1 are where it's at. So I just dropped $500 on a flippin' cassette - if this thing doesn't last longer than the bike at this point, it'll be the last time I run SRAM.

It's that cool oilslick that adds fifty watts though, so at least I've got that going for me?

Interesting. My bike has a GX cassette and I've not had any issues. I've put about 3000 miles on my bike since i bought it spring 2019. I do have the gold x01 chain and thought it might be getting stretched and worn, but bought a gauge and it is still in spec. Did a deeper clean on it and it quieted right down. I haven't had any gear slipping or anything either. Maybe I just don't have the power to wear things out?

I've been rocking a GX cassette for about the same number of miles. I start to get ghost shifting when the chain is near end of life. New chain always resolves the issue. I just do a chain a year, which is about 500-600 miles for me on average. I'm not a mtn goat but I climb ok for a 200+lb guy.

This cassette had about 3000 miles on it too. Almost 1000 of them were mine and I'm about as clyde as it gets so I'm sure that had something to do with it

I'll replace the chain too of course, but the whole thing is quiet as a mouse on the trainer. It's definitely a worn cassette.

I caved in and bought another bike today. I dropped my Bronson off to get a tune up and ended up buying a Heckler. So....any other riders that want to get out, I'm totally down and can now keep up with the fast climbers.

New bike.

Purists that still want an all physical experience, I'll be selling a 2022, size Large, Santa Cruz Bronson C R build with a GX rear derailleur when I get it back from the shop. It'll be freshly tuned and have a new chain. Thinking $3500 for RME. Hit me up if you're interested.

I posted this in the FS section, but will post here too. Located in Springville.

Got a specialized mini pump, brand new, and a fox shock pump, almost new, only used a couple times. Sold the bike and don’t need these sitting around. Free to RME members, but wouldn’t say no to any beer donations if so desired 👍

Got a floor pump as well, also free, in Springville too. Bought it, then ended up buying a park tool pump. Can do presta or schrader.

Thanks to @glockman buying his son a newer full suspension, I now have to buy my son one.. I have been looking on KSL, and general FB market place. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for a used bike?

What a jerk.

If you're looking for something that's worth shipping, I like the Pinkbike classifieds. And there's the MTBEU Gear Swap page on Facebook, but most of what's there will probably be on Marketplace?

Boy got a 2021 Giant Trance 27.5
I got a 2019 Kona process 153 29er

We had a good test run tonight. Overall both of us are very happy.
However, the 30 front ring and 42 rear ring were not quite low enough for me on some of the climbs. I’ve got a lot of weight to get up the hill, so I need a little more mechanical advantage.

Looking at some 28 tooth oval rings. Anyone have experience with oval rings? Likes/dislikes?

Your boy is gonna love that Trance. I have a 2021 TranceX 29 and it's melted butter on wheels. So sweet.

Oval rings work to smooth out your power delivery. Great for mashers, guys that already know how to pedal in circles don't seem to appreciate them as much. You would probably like one - you won't notice an increase in climbing power, per se, but I think you'll find that your smaller muscles (everything besides your quads and gluteus) don't get tired quite as fast, and you'll be able to put power down in the technical bits without spinning out the rear as much. It won't fix everything - I run a 28t oval on both my bikes, and a 50t granny on one and 52 on the other. I still struggle on most hard climbs because like you say, lots of weight.

I have not been riding hardly at all. @dutchman moved to Boise and @TRD270 is too busy being a jetsetter and @frieed got old. I'd love to see if we could set up a weekly RME ride. Mornings work best for me.

Are you not riding with the kids MTB team? My real good friend Ron has been doing that with his boys. Maybe its just not the right "season."
You know Ron? Great guy.

We're not. Ian went back and forth but decided he doesn't really like racing xc MTB and there's been a couple things that kind of turned me off coaching with the team so we're free agents this year.

Yeah I've known Ron for about 15 years. About the best man the world has to offer in my eyes. We used to live a couple blocks from him before we moved a couple miles away in 2018.

You gotta do what works best for you and your family. I just remember him telling me how often they were getting out with the team and was suprised. I'm pretty sure hes been helping out mostly to spend the time with his boys.
