Any opinions on 3.4 V6 for swap?

Anybody here have any experience with the 3.4 motors that came in Camaros? Do they have any problems that need to be fixed right away? Any mods that I should do?

I just bought a 3.4 and a 700R4 to swap into my zuk.

Good engine, good trans, if your rig's light, and it is. They're good for 160 hp, but you can bring out about 30 if you switch to roller rockers, add exhaust and intake.
I wish I could tell you how mine performs but I'm still waiting for my wiring back from Dynatech. :mad2:
Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Just wondering. How much did you get it for and how much?

I paid $200 for the engine and trans together (along with the front suspension). I have no use for the suspension, but they cut it out of the car as a unit.

What has to be done to the harness?

It had to be modified to wire into my jeeps' harness for the guages and such, they also attatch the computer connections and what not since they aren't part of the engine harness. In your case, I don't think you'll have to do it since it sounds like you have the complete harness from the car.

That's a pretty common swap into 2.8 Cherokees. If no one here has any good info, check www.naxja.org and maybe PBB

So far, everyone I know has switched everything back to the carb setup. I don't know why, it seems like just as much work for less performance.
As far as I know, I'm the first one to try the fuel injection, there's another guy not quite as far along as I who's keeping his fuel injection, he's in AZ. He had his wiring modified by Fuel Injection Technologies, it cost him more but I think it would almost be worth it. I sent mine in mid December to a company in California called Dynatech, every time I would call them I would get a answering machine. I must have left fifteen messages and never got a call back. Finally I got ahold of them yesterday and they said they would send it out today and gave me a tracking number. I wouldn't use them, actually, if I were you, I'd learn to do it yourself since you have the complete wiring and not just the engine harness. I don't think it would be too hard.
I should have mine running in a week or so, I'll let you know how I like it.
Most of the info I have is cherokee related so I'm afraid I'm of no help till I can tell you how it performs.
By the way, that's probably a 4L60E if it was mated to the 3.4, not a 700R4

jsut to clarify you are meaning keeping the FI in the Cherokee correct...I know a lot of guys use these motors with FI and all in many different vehicle build-ups...DSI on POR has one in his buggy...

Braden, I am pretty sure a lot (if not all) the 3.4s are aluminum so it is quite a bit lighter than any of the afore mentioned engines...

Actually the camaro engine is iron block and heads. It is somewhere in the 350 lb range.

Aluminum heads from a FWD setup can be bolted on, but you have to use the FWD intake due to port design. I think that swap also includes re-routing water lines. It is supposed to save 30 lbs.

I'm gonna stick with iron for now. It seems like a lot of work and $$$ to save 30 lbs

Anybody got pictures of their motor mounts? Did you base them off of stock GM type mounts or what?

What did you do for exhaust manifolds/headers?

As a matter of fact I do, since mine was going into my jeep I switched it over to the jeeps motor mounts. Problem with that was the air conditioning compressor wanted to be right where the motor mount was. That's why I had the pictures. My solution, huck it.
