any reason why not to sand blast axles

I was going to have my axle housings sand blasted and just thought I would ask if there are any negitave results to doing this. I cant think of any but I have never done it before

I havn't had any problems with blasting axles just be sure to pull everything out. The end result is well worth it.

Yes, you do. I got an axle where the vent wasn't plugged, or the tubes, and I cannot tell you how much aggravation it is to fully clean a differential and all the bearings of all the sand. :mad: :eek: It's not fun!!!!!!

So plug everything up and have at it! :D

I work at a motor shop and we use crushed walnut shells to blast, and then bake out the motor to burn out any grit... There is also dry ice blasting that leaves nothing behind (except for what you strip off...) I have always wanted to try these methods but never have the time:-\

Sand blasting is probably easier to come by though...

This is an Electric motor shop for industrial applications. But it is really good it is one of the largest electric motor shops in the state.
