The chop & section doesn't sound bad, if you can find the link I'd love to have more info. I've been doing more reading on chopping Bugs too, they do seem pretty straight forward.

I love the cheap part! If you can build that thing for under $1000, that's badass! I like the deep chop, looks perfect.

How tall are you & how tight is it inside it? I'm a tall MF'r at 6'4", might have to build a rag-top and leave it open to fit my head. :D

I'm only 5'10" but the guy from that link I am talking about it about as tall as you. The good thing about a Bug is the bubble roof. Even wtih my 8" chop and 4" section, there is still 3-4" above my head.

Here are a couple of links...

It's a Belgian with no English to be found so you just have to scroll for photos. You have to register, if you want I can PM you my login stuff so you can see the photos.

Here is a better version that's all in English and has better photos of the chopping/sectioning work.

I hate to swing this thread back in time, but what would it take to register a vehicle as a "Vintage Vehicle"? Is a 1953 Jeep a candidate for that?

From what I've read it has to be 40+ years old, can't be used as a daily driver (although I've talked to people about that and it isn't enforced), some one time small fee, and that's it...I think.

Lots of good info, thanks for the links!

I've been doing a lot of reading... I didn't realize that the guy that build 'Death' was local to me. He's in Grand Junction, 15 min away. I've seen some of the other Kustom Coach Werks vehicles around town, they build some amazing VW's. I came across this video, the car looks too cool driving down the road.-

As much as I want to do this, I think my wife would kill me in my sleep if I got a Bug & chopped it up. She loves the cars & has long talked about buying one. She'd hate me forever if I got one & cut it up. :ugh:

Tell her it's in the name of science. You can't make a better, badder, bug without cutting one apart :D

She'd never believe me. But I might have an idea... :freak: Mabey I'll buy one for her to drive and one for me to cut up! They're cheap enough...

Ok how's this look. I can't decide if it looks better or worse. Hopefully better once it's painted.
