Anybody have experience with crossfit?

With my diet working pretty well, I am thinking about hitting the gym. Anybody have any experience with Crossfit? I am debating on a Crossfit gym, or just the gym here at the University.

I've done some high intensity interval training (or crossfit, whatever), and it's good stuff. I do better when I have someone telling me what to do and pushing me, so it worked out well. Just like p90x, most people quit after the first week. They are great and rewarding workouts, but go into it knowing that for the first 1-2 weeks, you're going to feel like you were run over by a truck. If you can push through it and pay attention to your diet a bit, your body will adjust and after a few weeks you'll really start to see results.

In my first month (3 times per week) it took 2 minutes off of my 5k time, which is something since we never really did any longer runs (1.5-2 miles total over 90 minutes--but with 20-40# packs on).

If you do it, be prepared to be a mess for a few days, and stick with it.

Quite a few people at my work are into it, and the only advice they gave me when I thought about it was to not do to much at first thats how so many people get hurt.

I've done it for about 9 months now and love it.

I do it on my own at Gold's Gym so it's probably not as effective as if I were doing it at an actual Crossfit gym with someone pushing me.

Here's how I do it:

http://www.crossfit.com/

http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html

This first website shows the daily exercises (in the center column).

The second website has links to the specific exercises with videos in most cases.

The way it works is each day you go to the gym and do what's shown for the day and try to not rest in between. The level of fitness you can achieve is simply amazing. It's not a quick diet or fad. It's just really challenging workouts that mix it up day to day so you never get used to the program.

It's very important to go at your own pace and make sure you understand the exercise because a lot of them are actually pretty dangerous (Overhead Squat is a perfect example).

I alternate crossfit with body building and I have never felt better.

Do it, you won't regret it (unless you get injured )

I was looking into doing it like this last night, I think I'll try it this way first, and if I like it, but need more motivation (I often require someone to kick my ass into gear) I'll look into going with a trainer.
I've been doing great as far as diet, I've lost 20 lbs in about 4 weeks, and feel pretty confident I can keep it up, I've learned a ton lately about how my body handles sugars. It's just time to start adding a workout routine to the mix.

Good job on losing the weight! That's the part that's hardest for me. I've lost 52 lbs but it took 4 years. I really don't try very hard when it comes to diet but, yeah, that part kicks my ass :p
