Do you guys know anyone that has tirelocs. If you dont know what they are CLICK HERE . basically they are a system that locs the beads of your tires from the inside. they are 100% street legal in 50 states and have a lot of advantages compared to traditional pinch locks. lets hear what you guys think. there is also a good thread in the PBB about them but I want to see some for myself before I pony up the 700$ they are asking for the set that I want. yes......700$ but that is about what you end up paying for a good set of beadlocks that dont even lock the inner bead!?!

Here is the thread over at the PBB...it went 3 pages!!

If they are still the same thing, I have actually mounted a few sets back in the Drag Racing days, while working at Super Shops.

At that time they were built in Switzerland (?) and were way expensive to get in the States. The Drag Racers used them for running the rear tires at low pressures, inorder to keep from spinning the tire on the rims. They were a PITA to mount, you had to have a 2nd hole drilled into the rim and a long inner stem going thru the TireLoc, so you could adjust the Tire pressure. Its probably still the same. I do remember being told they were quite pricey, by the owner. He gave me about a 30 minute lesson in mounting them.......He shoulda done it himself!!

They looked like a killer product. From what I remember, the surfaces against the wheel and the opposite side were very thick and the sides were much thinner, so that area would expand against the rim.

I think the TireLocs were ran at about 25 PSI.......??

Pretty interesting read. I've never heard of them before. I just put beadlocks on my grand a couple weeks ago and I love them. I ran 6lbs in my MT/R's in Moab last weekend and the traction was great. The only problems I've had with my beadlocks is mounting (my arm got tired after criss-cross torquing all the freakin' bolts) and a little wheel wobble on the ride to Moab. I run 10oz of bb's in each tire with no wheels weights and it rides OK, but much rougher than a regular wheel.

I think it's a big risk given the $'s involved. If you don't like them you're kind of hosed. Atleast if you buy beadlocks and don't like them you can usually sell them quickly and at a good price since there in high demand. Go for the Rockstomper DIY locks...that's what I would have done if I didn't get a smokin' deal on my used TR locks ;)

A friend of mine has had them for 5-7 years. Work great, even on his 16" rims. I think he had one develope a leak and had to patch it. No biggy. I think they are a good option if the price has come down. $700 is a lot less than he paid.

the thing is that they lock both inside and outside beads. no worries about popping the inner bead!! I also like the fact that they act like runflats. The innertube setup with the sleeve makes a new surface for the tread to run on. it does not let the tire flex all the way to the rim but that just preserves tires in my opinion. If i could get them for cheaper I would buy some for sure!

I don't think I've ever actually seen ANYBODY blow an inside bead. I'm sure it happens occasionally, but you're talking very rarely, if ever, even in competition. Personally, I wouldn't spend any extra money to lock the inside bead(unless it was like $5 a wheel;))
