anyone available to run Forest Lake on Tues 8/9? Or Wed 8/10?

I hope they had a nice, long date with a water hose and a brush afterwards and their u-joints exploded on them. I absolutely hate mud myself, ever since about a month after I bought my Jeep in 1999 I thought it was fun until I had to clean all that crap out from every joint and crevice. Even then I never went off the trail, but I also grew up in an outdoorsy family and was aware at a young age.

Are there any decent fish in the lake?

no fish, but there are some cool little salamanders.
(love it up there )

And taking back Utah is the solution lol

Anyone a member over there? Give them a friendly reminder that these actions are noticed and are not appreciated.

The fed cannot educate nor enforce their rules. Much like it counts upon the states to enforce and educate drivers about the rules on it's interstate hwy system.

Back in the 80's, Vermont lost it's fed hwy $ because the Fed was angry with them because VT wouldn't enforce the Feds 55 mph mandate. In response, VT stopped maintaining the interstate which became a problem when the plows ignored snowfall. Eventually, more and more states pushed back and the Fed mandated 55mph speed limit was abandoned.

I left a message, but I guess the consensus is that as long as you're 50 feet from the lake, it's ok to mess around in the mud puddles up there. I was taught differently. I don't want to push it too hard. Nobody likes being told they've done something wrong, and I've put my two cents in. If anyone else feels it's necessary, feel free to reply to that thread. I honestly think most of it is a lack of education.

just to make sure I'm not totally off base, would a ranger give a fine/ticket if they drove up and saw this?

I think they would without question.

I would hope so. "Please stay on existing roads and trails" does not mean "go any-freaking-where you like as long as you're 50 feet from the lake".

I think it'd be cool if every trip report had a picture of all the trash picked up. Fortunately, there wasn't a single piece of trash on Mineral Basin when we ran it last week.
