Anyone drive a late model Corolla?

We're thinking about selling our WJ, and buying an 06 Toyota Corolla. Basically we should be able to sell the WJ for about the same price as the purchase price of the Toyota. We'll get roughly double the gas mileage. We would get a new car warranty, and save 80 dollars or so (with gas at 2.699) per month. The question is, how much will it suck driving a Corolla?

...and how much will it suck fitting a car seat in it? (I don't really know, but it's something to think about now....)

Bought the wife an '05 CorollaS a couple of months ago. As she was spending close to $600 a month between commuting to school and movign the kids around to their various activities. She was also putting 2000 miles a month on the Armada. It is a great little car, not the fastest one out there, but still enjoyable. I am 6'3" and 250#s with the seat adjusted down, I fit fine. It can cruise at 90 easily. The drive to St. George a couple of weeks ago wasnt as comfortable, as the Armada. Definitely not a traveling car, but great for commuting. PLus it is a Toyota, that should last almost forever if you take care of it.

A girl at work just bought an 06 Corolla S (I believe its an 06) about two weeks ago. She loves it, but had a hard time finding it and when she did there were already five other dealers trying to get it. Also, my mom drives an 03 or 04 Camry(sp?) and loves it, infact she already wants to sell it and get a newer model.

B- being the Toyota man I am, Purching a toyota would be the best thing you could do. Sell your jeep would even be a better thing!!

Seriously, I have a friend that has an 02, with 180k. He has replaced the tires and brakes. Still get 30+ mpg's

Just to document our progress:

We test drove a Toyota Corolla today. First thing we noticed was the tan interior. Ugly! You can get it in charcoal but they didn't have one in stock. Seems to drive fine, but had a lot of engine noise at higher RPMs. They only had two on the lot. Selling them faster than they can get them in stock.
The Honda dealership was the same way. They didn't have a single Civic Sedan on the lot. Unfortunately we couldn't drive one. He didn't even have a brochure left to give us. He did give us the option of ordering one today.
Just to give it a shot we drove a Mazda 3. It gets slightly less gas milage (which may be a deal killer), but we were more impressed with the car than the Corolla. It was much quieter. It was a little lower and seemed to have slightly less trunk space (important for Chicky's work), but seemed a little more "solid" a car than the Corolla and had more options for the money. Much nicer looking interior as well.
The next step is to price out each car with all our options, and research what mileage owners are actually getting.

Mazda3 hands down. I know about 4 people that have bought them and they love them. I have read a ton about them... they have won all types of consumer auto awards. You get a lot more for the money and they are built reallly well (reliability should be good).

go with the mazda. i have owned a couple and have been extremly satisfied with them. mazdas often get over looked because they are not as big a name as toyota and honda. they are very reliable and generally carry a better basic warrenty then most. also know a couple of people with the 3's an say they get quite a bit better mialage than the window sticker claimed.

My Brother in law got a late 80's Mazda new and put w/ 280k miles on it and even sold it a few years ago for 2k. My impression of Mazda has been changed. But I know nothing about new cars except that my parents bought a new Accord and love it.

Good Luck, Brad J

mazda does seem like it has changed its ways, i used to think they suck but now they look a lot better and i know a lot of people that own them and are satisfied

you should go with a car like bretts avatar, acura tsx or 3.2tl
my gf has a tsx and it is the sweetest car i have ever driven!
oh yeah the tsx is about 27k and the 3.2tl is about 32k so they kinda break the budget :D

I'll have to check out some Mazda forums and see what mileage the owners are actually getting. Based on the window sticker they get considerably worse mileage than the Honda or Toyota. We did like the Mazda, but if we're going to buy a car for mileage, we're gonna get one that gets good mileage... VWs are too expensive, and the upkeep on them is WAAAAY too expensive, Joe. Also, they're smaller, which would suck for Chicky.

We're looking to get a Mazda 3 next spring sometime. I have been impressed with Mazda so far. Our Miata has 182K on it and still gets 28-30mpg and runs well....passed IM with a gutted cat....A buddy had a 626 that we drove back and for to Zion every weekend for a year. We beat the hell out of it and it never even hicupped. Angies parents had a couple late 90's Mazda's too, both were good cars....

The more research I do, the more the Mazda is out of the running. It just doesn't seem to be getting the mileage that the Civic or Corolla get. :( I'm actually really liking what I hear about the Civic more and more. Wish there was one in the valley I could go dirve... I'm anxious to see what Honda has in store for the 06 Civic. They haven't come out yet.
