I love this time of year when even guys like me can walk on water. We have gone on a bunch of good ice fishing trips to Scofield, Current Creek, and this last Friday and Saturday we made it up to the Gorge. The Gorge was a bit slow but we managed to get some eating sized Macs and even one of those ugly Burbots. Has anyone else been out on the ice?

I'm taking the scouts up to Scofield the end of Feb. to camp out and fish all night long. I love ice fishing, it should be a good time.

Where at on the Gorge? And what did you use?

We fished off of stateline beach and around the Lucerne marina. We caught them on medium sized tube jigs tipped with chub meat. If you have ATVs or snowmobiles they have been doing well around Anvil draw and pipeline areas from what I've heard.

When we fished Scofield we went off the boat ramp on the north end of the lake. However they must have dumped a few truckloads of small planters there because we caught tons of little ones. Down south around the island I've heard they have been getting bigger ones.

In the past the north end of the lake seems to have better action, but smaller fish. I'm not sure were we will end up camping. I need to get a waterproof light, or some glow sticks. I've never ice fished at night, but have heard it can be alot of fun (if you can stay warm.)

Did you catch the Burbot on the same thing? Did you eat it? I've heard they taste great. (poor mans Lobster)

Staying warm will be the challenge. I've tried to stay late at Scofield, fishing was good but when it hit about 15 below all of my bait froze up solid. If you had an ice hut and a heater it would be a lot better.
