Anyone here do automotive painting or professional rock chip repair?

Bought a new car on Saturday. While driving on the freeway yesterday, a cloud of dust was kicked up by the microbursts we experienced. So, to my delight, my new car has a number of rock chips on the hood and bumper, as sand and a car travelling 70MPH apparently do not coincide so well. I'm thinking of going with a full ClearBra application but I'd like to find out my options for repairing these first.

Rock chips on a painted surface will never look 'right' without putting the work and $$$ into a repaint of the surface. I can't help at all with the windshield, and if I still worked at a shop, I'd be glad to help with the paint, but they can do it cheaper than me (volume purchasing power and an equipped shop can do wonders for costs). Did the chips go through the clear? If they didn't you may be able to 'buff' back to a shine.

Hey brad.. i'm checking around with some different people that we've used in the past for cleaning up chips and such. i'll let you know what i find out. as for the ClearBra, i throw RME guys a discout... so make sure to talk to me, Jason. our office number @ Clearbra is 486-7668, i'm more than likely the guy that'd take your call anyways.

I wonder if I have a snowball's chance in hell of taking this up with the dealership. I've never had a vehicle's paint hold up so poorly, especially from sand. From the looks of it, you'd think I just spent the afternoon throwing rocks at the car for the fun of it.

Wouldn't surprise me if they took care of you or told you where to go. Can't hurt to ask nicely, though.

i knew your story sounded strangely familiar. i figured that must have been one hell of a wind storm to have even two people mention it damaging their cars... but, it makes sense that's it's just one unlucky guy.. you.. :D

is there any chance you could send me a picture of it? i'd like to see how bad it is.

i'm checking with my cousin who does detailing, to see if he repairs rock chips and such. i'll let you know about that when i find out. Also, the guy that we do all our body work through is Paul Panellas @ Panella's Paint and autobody.. or something like that. If you told him that we sent you, he might cut you a deal. or, i'll call him if you want me to, and see what he'd quote us to have it done. i'm fine with whatever... let me know.

Thanks, Jason. I'm going to talk to Mark Miller's service manager tomorrow and see what they offer to do. I have found bug impacts that have removed clearcoat, so I think I have a reasonable case to get this fixed. But if not, I'll check with Panella.
