ksvb, My truck is not near finished. I am planning on flatbeding it within the next month or so. I am sure you seen my old yota. It was a yellow truck that I flatbedded. I sold it, and bought the truck I have now to do more drivertrain than looks. So far I have done just that, and I would like to make it look better now. There is another 4-runner in the parking lot, one of which just got a sas, but I didn't do it. Some people are just unwilling to spend money in areas that they need to (ex. steering arms) and I didn't want to be part of a vehicle that may hurt someone. Some stuff I wouldn't want to cut corners for, and it sounds like you are on the right track for just buying the kit.

74highboy, yeah-tell me when the show is. I might be able to round up a few rigs to bring down. I don't know if mine is show ready, but if you are scraping for vehicles, I would come.

Dude, you weren't supposed to tell everyone where I got my logos from..ohh wait, you didn't.

Why is weber sending high school kids to these cool things, but not us students who are actually paying the school.

I see how it is now, we pay them, they give the high school students stuf to attract them to the school! Awesome.

So provo high ended up winning the contest? Or who was it?
Thomas, we should get a club going at weber. I know the guys at New Mexico Tech got a club, and the school ended up paying like $600 for them to go to moab! They could use the money on anything while they were there!

They don't need the logos...

A Weber Wheeling Club would be cool. Maybe we can get all the street queen Jeeps out. We should talk about this, Timmer.

Oh, Fade to Black,

I know it isn't "new" but new to us. I noticed it has been used alot already. Do you know what happened to the engine cover? So did you do anything to the Maroon Durango we recieved from there?
What would be neat for Weber to get for an aid is the new Lexus LF-A concept!
I will be coming up to Weber for School this year. I am sure you will be able to notice either my Toy or my Talon.

I'm glad you guys got the car. It is easy to work on, for the most part.

I have no idea what happened to the engine cover, but I'm sure it is sitting around somewhere. Those cars get worked on so much it wouldn't make sense to have to pull the cover off each time you go to do something on the motor.

On the Durango, I haven't touched it. klif and I are in the Toyota program (T-TEN) so we normally only work on Toys.

When you get to Weber let either klif or me know and we'll hook up and maybe go wheeling.

I have the all pro 3" (1.5" forward) springs and 37" Wrangler MTR's. I probably wouldn't buy all pro's springs again. They are a little stiffer than I like, and the shackle angle is not the best. I would check out Marlin's stuff over All-Pro's. I have bought a lot of stuff from Marlin, and they have always treated me good. Although I have never had a problem with All-Pro, nor am I anti-All-Pro, I do believe the quality of Marlin's stuff is top notch. Marlin's springs are a full 47" long which allows for a great shackle angle.

The rear is a custom pack that I made. They follow Jay K's setup using Mazda B2000 leafs, except I used all Mazda leafs instead of part toyota. I cut and tapered 2 sets of leafs, and then drilled the ends out for use with teflon pads to eliminate squeaking and lessen friction between the pads. Of course I had to use a traction bar, but I think the setup is very good. I wish I would have built my own spring pack for the front (Marlin didn't offer springs at the time) For the track bar I used a Summit Machine Fex Joint, and YJ Poly bushings at the other end. It seems to be a great setup and flex's really well. I have seen people use xj leafs for front suspension, so I may experiment with that. I could also pull a leaf out of the pack, but that doesn't help my shackle angle much.

what are these contests you speak of? i go to highland high, i currently have 3 auto shop classes, (plus a seminary class so if you get what i mean, i have 4 auto shops ;) ) and i havn't ever heard of any contests. and what is the deal with all these other schools getting free "new" cars(east high got a pt cruiser donated by chrysler and a some poniac, i had a class over there and i remember one student complaining,"a pt cruiser? thats all chrysler can give us?") the only cars highland high gets are cars kids bring in or cars the the teacher goes out with his own money and buys(usually old pos's) not to mention our shop is the most out dated shop in the school district. our lifts have been in the auto shop since our school was made(about 50 yrs) and yes they are very scary to work with. sorry i dont meen to sound mad but i kinda get angered when i see how limited my education is compared to what other shcools have

Competitions

These competitions are what I thought of as a widely known fact. I know that I have to do a lot on my part to get ready for them. My teacher gets e-mails from those who put on the competition. Some schools do not have a Skills USA Club, therefore there is no way to contact someone who is not part of an organization. The Weber competition is widely known, even by 4 other states other than Utah! The only way we get cars is because of our knowledge, not because we have an "in" with the manufacturers.

Another thing that may have happened too is that your instructors sent who they thought might do the best in the competition. If if they didn't place in anything, it may go unnoticed that anyone represented your school. I know that there were 33 students in the Skills USA competition on Friday, which I thought was quite a few. Most schools are getting rid of the automotive programs, which is a sad thing to see.

I know in my Auto shop, we have some old stuff. Most of the stuff is well taken care of, and is very clean. When we work on cars from the public, we can't charge them money, so we set up a way for them to donate if they desire.

Thats how Mtn View is. As soon as the current auto teacher retires, they said thats when they get rid of the program.

I really think its a bad thing because I know there are a lot of other students who may not do well in anything but the shop sort of classes, so if they don't learn that then they probably will have some problems in life.

Yeah,

My teacher told me also about Mtn. View's situation. I guess Alpine School District is reverting their money to more of the academic classes. I guess they are just telling those interested in automotive to go to the MATC. I feel sorry for those going to Mountain View in the upcoming years. I know that there is a "convenience" factor when it comes to having a automotive program at school, and I know less students will apply for an MATC class because it involves work-and getting there. Who knows, tomorrow our automotive program may be nothing.

Past tense? You're no longer close to highschool age?

Until you're 21, you're close to HS age ;)

Thanks again and keep posting!

I'm a Senior at Olympus high, i thought about starting a club at our school cuz we have a million jeeps there that need to see some more dirt but they said it couldnt happen until next year cuz of some stupid made up reasons, but oh well i usually wheel with some kids that are one year older than me cuz most of the others at my school are scared of dirt. i drive a 2000 jeep wrangler with a 6" LA thats all black.that would be cool to join up with some you skyline kids to wheel cuz im always looking for people to wheel with. let me know when you all go wheelin next time
