I called on it a few weeks ago, I have a good idea about what they paid (much less than they are asking), since they got it in on trade. (Actually they are a wholesaler, they bought it from the dealer that bought it on trade.) At that point they were asking $6k. I made him a reasonable offer and he refused it and said it was "actually at auction RIGHT NOW". I told him if it didn't sell at auction, call me back and we'll talk since I had cash in hand and was prepared to put money down on it, right then. He didn't call me back, so I called him a few hrs later than he was supposed to call me back. At that point he told me it was sold, so I forgot about it.
The next week he called me back, saying the auction fell thru and asked if I was still interested in buying it.
I
HATE having a used car salesman jerk me around, so I told him I had no interest and had in fact written it off after he told me that it was sold the week before.
He kept telling me that he could take it anywhere in the country and get $6.5k for it, since there's such a huge following. It hasn't sold because of all the dents, scratches, and horribly worn seat. As I understand, the power steering pump may need to be replaced and the starter contacts were worn, making it hard to start. That was the shape it was in when it was traded in. I don't know if any of that has been fixed. Also, 2 of the tires need to be replaced.
It's a good deal if you don't mind owning a beatup and abused rig. It's a Toyota, so it'll run well for a very long time. It's very well setup and would be very capable as is, especially with 2 e-lockers. If the guy wasn't a prick about selling it, it would be in my possession. :greg: We ended up with a stock '92 FJ80 with no lockers. Fine by me, I have my TJ for the Rocks.
