Anyone Running a RE LA with a Banks Exhaust?

You're correct...Edge doesn't say anything about premium fuel...maybe it's just something with my 4.0. I've considered unplugging the Edge box and see if it detonates any less but just hasn't been a priority. The Edge Manual makes the following claims:

HP/Torque
Air Filter: 10/12
Air Filter/Throttle Body: 15/19
Air Filter/Throttle Body/Module 20/26

Looks to me like the majority of the increase is due to the air filter and throttle body which can be had relatively inexpensive compared to a complete Trail Jammer kit.

I haven't experienced one but I imagine the Kenne Bell kit makes a substantial difference...too bad it's about $4k.

I'm sure the super charger would be a kick in the pants but it will for sure need high octane to run happy. I just want a little bit of boost to turn the 35"s. I looked into the HESCO head that is good for 30HP but they want $1800 for it!!!

I can bore throttle bodies for those interested... I also bore my own and sell them.

I have a bored throttle body on my Jeep (one I did), and as MRJ knows, the increase in HP/Torque was minimul - we actually dynoed it, a Rubicon Express 62mm and a stock one with not much of an improvement over stock.

My Rubicon used to ping all the time. I installed a 180* thermostat, and that problem was gone completely and have no other side effects.

I recently bought a Hypertech programmer and reprogrammed my Rubicon for HP/93 octane. After doing so, the pinging came back. On 93 octane, the pinging went away again. I don't notice any power inprovements, but it does appear to run better. It just idles much smoother and runs smoother.

Thanks Wayne...180 thermostat...great idea...I'll give it a try.

That was a great upgrade for my rig... The dang thing pinged all the time, no matter what I did - even if I ran high octane gas. The only down side with the lower temp t'stat is my heater doesn't blow as hot of air as it did before. And on a rig where the heater is crap anyway, it makes a difference. There's times up here that I have to wear a jacket while driving around because the heater can't keep up. Keep in mind, we have been in the 8/-30* though.... All of the trees are frosted right now from the fog turning to ice on them... I don't remember having this issue last winter in SLC.

COME ON 70'S FOR THE MOAB TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Well, I now know that a Banks Monster exhaust does not work with a RE LA...it's close but hits the upper arm. It seems that I need to look for a new muffler...too bad because I really like the Banks. Any recommendations...something that fits in the existing space but not too loud.

flow master hush power 2...they are really small and may give you the clearance

Flowmaster Hushpower II...4"x5.5" section with 2.5" in/out is perfect but 24" overall length may be too long without cutting off the cat flange. The Banks is about 19" overall from the cat flange (muffler is about 14") to the end of outlet pipe. I'll keep the Hushpower II in mind but shorter will make for an easier install.

When I do the RE installs, I put a Magnaflow 10416 in the place of the old one. It's 2.5" in and out, 4" diameter and the body is 14" long.

On rigs that I need more room, like when I triangulate the rear, I move the cat forward a bit - so that it is just shy of the starter - and then install the muffler next to the transfer case.

This muffler is nice. It's all stainless steel, so it will last a long time. Since it's so small and made of stainless, it's pretty quiet and has a nice deep tone. I've been asked before if I had a V8 in my Rubicon.

10416 is natural and 14416 is polished stainless. I'll sell them to you for $45 and $50 accordingly. Right now I only have the polished in stock.

Thanks Wayne, the Magnaflow sounds perfect but my sense of urgency on this one was high so I've already solved the problem. This morning I found out that I don't have use of the company car next week and have to commute to Orem in my Jeep next week so I stopped by Master Muffler in Ogden and every once in a while a plan works out...turns out that as I walked in, the tech standing next to the manager recently moved to Ogden from Logan...when in Logan he did all the exhaust work for Mt. Logan Offroad so my LA was nothing new for him. He just angled the Existing Banks muffler and reworked the tailpipe a little...only took about 40 minutes and $65 and I was back on the road again:D Maganflow sounds like a great solution...I'll remember it when the Banks gets crushed.

I recently finished up my exhaust with the banks header and cat back system. One thing I found when mounting up the muffler: the pipe that attaches to the cat actually has a slight bend in it. So, instead of mounting the muffler with the 'Banks Monster' stamping facing down, I mounted it with the stamping facing up. I'm still using the inlet as the inlet, but now the slight bend sends the muffler out further away from my UCA.

The other thing that I have going for me is my RE UCAs are old school. They are not straight, they have a bend just past the muffler. I have plenty of clearance now. My factory muffler was just slightly rubbing the UCA. With the banks being shorter, I probably could have left the muffler with the stamping down, but once you clamp that bad boy in there, good luck getting it back out, so I did the flip.

When I looked through your pictures last night I was trying to figure out how you made your Banks clear then I noticed that your UCA's have a bend in them but I didn't notice that you flipped the muffler...nice work and hope you like the Banks:D
