AR scope recommendations?

Looking for a scope that I can acquire targets mucho more quickly than my current 6x24 unit. I'm thinking 3x9 and want to stay under $400ish. I do like to shoot at 300-400 yards at times so I don't want just a red-dot or similar. Any comments?

Careful with your internet purchases

I assume that the leupold AR series is calibrated for the 223 with 55gr, so those mil-dots will make sense out of the box right?

With a hunting scope I find that with a 3x9 I don't use the 3 very often, but often used the 9 and often wanted more. I now use a 4x12 and get a better use of the avalible range. But with the AR-15 I would think that a 3x9 maybe a better fit. So there is not much useful information for you, but I threw it out there anyways.

I just sold my Eotech XPS and picked up a Burris Fullfield Tac 30. It is a variable zoom of 1-4x. It is illuminated. It has a very nice reticle and will work great for CQ shots and longer range out to 500yds. For a $300 price tag I think it is very hard to beat. I got mine from Midwayusa.

I'd go with that Leupold. I think you are spot on with the 3-9 also. 3 is great for rabbit hunting, easy to find them when they are running.

I use a 4-14 Leupold VXIII on mine but its probably over kill.

I still really like the Nikon scopes for a cheaper scope. I have a 6-18 Buckmaster on my 204 and I've been really happy with it.

Luepold are my favorite optics, but I have also been very impressed with Redfield. (Redfield is made and produced by Luepold, with a smaller price tag) But when bang comes to buck, I always look for a Nikon. The Nikon Prostaff series is on sale at Cabelas, you can pick up a 3x9 for $100. A little higher quality is the Monarch series, which is still in your budget range. Either way you can pick up a quality scope in that price range. Another factor in why I like the two companies, is the customer service. Both have great warranties and stand behind their product. You don't purchase a scope expecting something to fail or for you drop it by mistake. But it is comforting to know that when I did, they (Luepold and Nikon) were able to help me out.
