I would go front 100 percent being able to lock and unlock your front in offorading is the best you don't ever really need to un lock your rear, the front on the other hand is easier to turn when you unlock the front and some times you don't want it in slippery conditions

Front. The back of you toyota is so light it's sometimes hard to even notice the difference between locked, and unlocked but the front will make everything easier

I personally dont trust arb's enough to have one in the rear. Even on a daily driver. With the detroit in the rear you can count on it.

I would go ARB in the front. I have a detroit in the rear and just finished intalling a ARB up front. I drove my truck on the road for around 3 years with a detroit in the rear. You just get used to coasting around corners. After a couple days it becomes habbit and you forget you are doing it. I didn't have bad tire wear either. I switched from a lockrite up front to the ARB because it was annoying to turn. Good luck.

I'd run the ARB in the rear for offroad or DD. But DD for sure nothing like a open diff on the pavement, and the front needs to be locked more on the trail. IMHO

Put it in the rear for nice daily-drivering, and twin-stick the Tcase so you can have 2WD Low range to release the front Detroit for steering ease offroad.

Or, deal with the Detroit on the street, and the ARB will be awesome in the front offroad. You already know how the Detroit behaves on the street--so you'll have to decide how much it matters to you. :)

ARB in the front. There was an article in 4wheel drive sport utility magazine where they polled and most everyone (big name people) said ARB in rear. For the life of me i can't imagine why. Daily driving yes but these guys weren't street pounders.

i had to vote rear for the ARB. i feel like an idiot turning around in parking lots and such with the rear tires chirping. the open diff also works better in snowy conditions for a daily driver. if it was a dedicated trail rig i would vote the other way though

I agree with the Carls...
ARB in the rear for DD. Nothing like an open rear on the street.

you can twin stick the front to cut out the front drive offroad

and cutting brakes on the rear with an ARB to turn tighter.

I have detroit front, spool rear now. When I can afford an ARB, I'll swap one in place of the spool rather than put my detroit in the rear and arb the front.

ARB in the rear!!! Especially if you have selectable hubs. The Detroit in the front is much easier on parts than the spool like action of an ARB when locked. When the rear is locked all the time you are pushing through some corners and again, that is hard on the front. Any comp rig that has a combo will most likely have the ARB in the rear. 3 of mine did.

I guess i need edumacated. I don't compete so i don't how that is, but i think a detroit in front is harder on parts like u-joints, etc and i've often found it harder to turn with front locked. My fav is rock crawling and snow blasting.

I agree that ARB in the rear for a daily driver but snow/icy road driving with front detroit would be uncomfortable. My DD has ARBs front and rear. I hate the ARBs by the way because of all the issues with them but that's been covered over and over.

i have to agree with what has been said, selectable hubs in front for a DD with a deroit would be good and un lock the rear for DD with the arb but i still think there are off road situations that you would want the front unlocked

I've seen more failed Detroit's than ARB's... 99% of the issues with ARB's are installer errors. If you bust a shaft or hub or...The ARB will live, where the Detroit most likely won't. Just my .02...
