Asus EEE "netbook" opinions?

I think I need to preface this by stating I know next to nothing about computers. I know Microsoft office in and out, but that's it.

Thinking about this:

I need something to take to school without feeling like I'm lugging around another textbook. I need internet access, xp, and office, that's it! I don't care about not having a cd/dvd drive, I've got that at home. I also just setup a wireless network at home, so convenient timing :) I messed around on one for a few minutes at Bestbuy over the weekend, and they're tiny. Keyboard will take a little getting used to, but it's not bad...

I'm thinking about 2 of them  One for me, and one for Kami. Upper division classes and an MBA in the future... I'll probably buy one, and if I like it enough, we'll get the second one.

Thoughts? Anyone have one?

I don't have one, but I've played with one. They are cool! You definitely won't want to run it as your primary computer, but for what you stated it will work perfect.

Buy it for me I will test it out for you.. if it sucks I will keep it so you don't have to go through the trouble of dealing with something that is no good :)

I have played with one and it would do for your uses.. the Keyboard is a bit small so if you have large hands it may be cumbersome..

I would get one too. Perfect for what you are describing. The Acer Aspire One are kind of cool too, but I would probably take the Asus as a first choice.

The biggest complaint about them where the small 7" monitors, and those were kind of a drag, I would go for the newer ones with the larger 10" monitor.

I've been real tempted to get one, but it would just be to screw around with. I've heard great things about them. Like Rusted mentioned, the biggest complaint I have seen has been the screens. I personally would still get the 7" but there are options and you should see what you would prefer. Dell has recently released a netbook as well, something you may want to look in to. (I personally prefer the Asus. :))

I was disappointed

I have the Acer Aspire One. At first I was totally stoked about this tiny little thing with a huge hard drive. It's great for storage, but practical it's not. The small keyboard and mouse/touchpad drive me crazy. I thought I could get used to it, but not so much. My biggest complaint by far, however, is the screen size and resolution. I have run into problems with multiple applications (i.e. Blackberry Desktop Manager, iTunes, Kodak Easyshare) where the resolution is not compatible. In some cases you can download a driver to allow the programs to operate with the smaller screen size but not in all cases. Either way it is a huge pain in the butt, not to mention how frustrating it is to have to scroll down for every sentence. It's possible that it would be ideal for you in your situation but for me it was a big disappointment.

Wait, on second thought, I love it. Wanna buy mine??? ;)

7" screen?

I'd go with the 8.9" over the 10.4" (or whatever) any day.
The whole point is portability and the 8.9" does everything the 10" one does and has the same screen resolution and its quite a bit smaller. Make sure you get one with windows on it, that little operating system that comes on some of them is Horrible!:ugh:

No, I was talking about the 7"

There's a 7" a 9" and a 10". As far as the OS, I'd get Linux on it. It may be horrible if you don't know what you are doing, but I would take it over Windows ANY day. :)
