I thought '95 was the last year they used the old system... (mine had it.. I'm doin research now...

this '93 didn't have an aux trans cooler... just radiator..

The Renix 4.0L was full of vacuum hoses and an open cooling system. The HO came with a closed system. HO started in '91.

Likely.....it's been a while since I had to remember anything about XJs.



(however, I do remember if I EVER have to put a CPS on an XJ (or a 4.0L Jeep) I'LL ONLY BUY THE CPS FROM THE DEALER)

Closed = pre 92 Xj's w/ the pressurized bottle.
Open = Post 91 Xj's with a real "cap" mounted directly on the radiator

My 89 has a nice open cooling system.
















But I made it that way

Mine's still a closed system and I have no intentions of changing it. You just have to pay extra attention to trapped air when you change coolant. That's the only thing that I have found that causes the overheating issues with closed systems.
