Axle Question?

I have a D44 in the rear that has the stock limited slip in it. I noticed yesterday that it wanted to lock up every turn I made. it wasn't chirping tires, but was definitly locking on those turns. Today my wife took it out and complained about alot of popping it. I replaced the gear oil and added a friction reducing additive. Its a little better but still acting up on turns. Is my locker toast? Or is there somthing else going on in my diff? Taking it to a mechanic tomorrow.

Did you put in the limited slip addative when you changed the gear oil? Did this problem start right after you replaced the gear oil? Im no mechanic but my ford axle needs the addative.

dodge or jeep used a diffrent addtive than chevy.
what one did you use.
same? did this start before or after oil change.

It started before the oil change. It actually felt better after but still pops on turns.

well, regardless of the current issue, using the wrong additive will make some problems for you. Using a friction-REDUCING additive is probably not the right way to go-- find the cause of the problem first.

I got the stuff from the guys at 6 states. It's the friction modifier that your supposed to use with the factory locker. A lot of Fords use the same stuff aswell.

You should be able to get it at the Ford dealership. It stinks really bad! The empty bottle filled my garage with its stank in a matter of minutes

does it pop and jerk when you are turning? In my jeep I broke one of the side/spider gears and that is what mine would do. I had a Dana 44 with the Limited Slip.

Yup, does a little of that! We'll pop open the cover this weekend to see what the damage is.
