Axle sleeves and trussing

I have been searching all over and trying to read up on sleeving axles and trussing them. I have found a bunch of articles on D30's and new D44's in the JK's and such, none about older 44's, why is that? Through my research I found that the newer 44's have thinner axle tubes but beyond that why else are they weaker? My motivation for this research is because I have a D44 front and D60 rear off of a J20 that I will be using on a CJ-7. I plan to run YJ leafs as well. Rear axle wise I am not worried much about sleeving and if I do run a truss I will probably use the Artec D60 leaf spring truss (assuming the dimensions fit my dimensions) or I I will make one, most likely the D60 rear will be strong enough on it's own. The front axle though I was originally planning to a Chevy D60 I had but I had to sell it so I am left with the D44. I tried calling R-SE in Logan to ask them because their JK Bomb-proof kit is highly recommended but they never answered. My problem I have found is tat except for the newer D44 or running 3 or 4 link front I can find a truss for the D44 front that runs leafs.

I would like someone to explain in simpler terms how inner and outer sleeves differ. Obviously inners go on the inside and outers on the outside but do they butt up directly to the housing and the knuckles? How do the inners get measured and installed? What are pros and cons of these things. I am pretty unexperienced with axles beyond stock maintenance since everything I have had before was stock 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Also are D44 components pretty much the same? I mean beyond obviously spline, length of shafts differences etc. If this deserves a flaming then so be it but I am looking for information so I'll take the flaming with it.

I think your J-series front D44 housing will be decently strong esp. in comparison to the JK units (lighter tubes, weaker inner-C axles, etc.) . That's assuming you're just trail riding/rockcrawling. If you're going to pound on it in the desert at speed, I'd gusset/reinforce anything you think could bend, because it will.

I'll leave the technical details of the inner/outer sleeves explanation to some enginerd or something.

I think sleeves are a waste of time if you are going to do anything to them just truss them up and be done with it

What I ment to say was that I CAN'T find a D44 front truss for a leaf spring set up. Also what about interchangeable parts from 44 to 44? Are they all the same inside? So like could a carrier and gears from a newer 44 be used in an older 44? Obviously proper splined shafts and length etc would be needed though

Inside sleeves install by drilling a bunch of holes in the tube then sliding the sleeves inside and welding up the holes. As I understand it you become limited in the aftermarket shafts that will still fit inside the new tube ID. At least with a jk d44. Seems like most guys bend the inner c though.

What are your plans with the jeep? Slow or fast? That's how I would base the build.

The JK rubicon stuff is different the regular JKs with the dana 44 are the same.... and almost all 30 spline dana 44 stuff is the same

If you want a truss for your Dana 44 send me a PM...

My plan is build it for all around trail use. Not hardcore crawling but I plan to work it hard. I will however use it for hunting too. I have been known to bomb down roads a little too hard. I would rather overbuild than be stuck out here in the desert around Dugway wishing I had done more. I would like to build it up myself instead of someone else doing it but I want to learn righ.
