battery wire size

I am trying to run my wires for the battery on my buggy... I have to go about 2' from the battery to a battery disconnect that is mounted on my dash, then back out to the starter. My question is what is the appropriate wire size? I was going to just run down to auto zone and pick up some cables that would work but they mainly sale 4-6 gauge wire and some 2 gauge. Ive done some research and people are runnin 00 wire or welding wire in a lot of buggy's. What are your guys thoughts on the gauge size and is there somewhere you can just buy wire by the foot and crimp the ends on you need?

Welding cable is the bomb for carrying voltage... but 2 gauge would probably be fine. Personally, if I replace a cable it gets welding cable.

2ga, even 4ga will work for a few feet. I would reccomend wiring the starter directly from the battery. Running those high CCAs through a switch can not be that great. Also the silenoid on the starter is like a relay, no current drawn until trigger excites relay coil.

you can go down to home depot and grab wire... or if you know how much you need I can get you wire by the foot at some of the electrical supply houses... I had some welding wire here but I think its in my shed which is a mess right now but would be glad to look for it when I get home tonight...

Run your ground through the switch and then tie the cable to the frame right next to the switch.

This is what I am trying to do.
