I need some new fresh music. What are your favorite albums of the year?

Mine are:

Sweet Sour by Band of Skulls
Synthetica by Metric

I guess I may be a little old but, I always enjoy older stuff. AC/DC, Motley Crue, Metallica, and the like. However, since I do have satellite radio I have been enjoying 1000 Foot Crutch, Volbeat, Seether, and Five Finger Death Punch.

Thanks for introducing me to Band of Souls!
I like this one a bit better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XUwKewzdNs&feature=relmfu

Yeah, Band of Skulls are amazing. I saw them live a few months ago and it was the best show I've ever seen, even better than the album. I really dig their style. Sweet sour is the album (and also a track name). My favorite song of theirs is "bruises":

Not really an album, but I came across this song form Rush and have fallen in love with it!

Der Trommler -R30 live version.

Check it out on Spotify!

Austin was/is an amazing place for music. At the time, he was just one of many really good bands that played the area. I saw SRV and Double Trouble maybe 10-15 times in various clubs during the early 80's. He typically played 3 50-60min sets, one of them all Hendrix covers. He opened every set with "Hideaway", kind of like the late bell in school, it said "come take your places, the show is starting up again". I watched him playing "Rude Mood" one night when a string broke, he kept going, another and another broke. Finally, he's rocking hard on one string and it gave out. "Can't play on no strings" he said as the stage hand tossed him another guitar.
I walked into Steamboat 1874 with my camera one time and got some shots of him from the balcony. I'll have to scrounge up those slides and scan them. Maybe I'll add them to this thread when I do.
Here's a writeup on the boat http://www.austinchronicle.com/music/1999-09-24/74004/
For a really strange place, there was also the Armadillo World Headquarters, commonly called "The Dillo" http://www.austinlinks.com/Music/armheadq.html
Ah, the memories... I was truly fortunate to have been there
