Best TBI conversion fuel pump

I know a lot of you have put on electric in-line pumps for a TBI setup. After researching a little last year, I chose a Master E2182. I got the number off another jeep board. The pump has worked perfectly, and is very quiet. Costs about $90.00 at Autozone (lifetime warrenty). Now, I have been thinking about getting the cheapest spare I can find (to get me off the trail). I have seen where some people are questioning using a high pressure pump like this cause the TBI only needs 10-20 lbs (cant remember) and mine puts out like 95lbs (estimate) I guess the tbi sends the excess fuel back to the tank (built in regulator). THe concern is this pump will always be circulating a lot of gas back to the tank. The thought is the pump wont last long cause its working all the time. Is this a legitimate concern?

I also see guys use the Master 2000. It is a little cheaper with a llittle lower pressure #'s. Greg bought the MSD 2225 from Summit.

Anyone have opinions on the ideal pressure/pump? I have cross referenced the #'s with NAPA, and AC Delco, but they are all more money.

Anyone know about a cheaper one that would work just as good?

Thanks
Kirk

don't worry about it running all the time..........thats what they are suppose to do ;)

cheap and fuel injection I don't think belong in the same sentence. :D

Kirk,

Great thread. I know exactly what you are talking about. Personally I think it is best to get a pump rated for the pressure that your TBI system is designed to run at. I got my pump from Howell, and I believe it was around $80. Still running strong 3 years later; but I too want a spare to carry when the SHTF. I've got mine mounted in such an easy palce to change that it wouldn't even slow me down for 5 minutes. However, a pump that takes a dump and no spare in the 'ol tool box would make for a crappy day of wheeling. I think it's best to just buy another pump of whatever you currently have (in my case, the Howell unit) and bite the bullet on the price.

(That Azone unit with lifetime warranty sounds enticing but after my last experience with Azone TRASH I think I'll steer clear.)

I have been running pump that Ford uses in '86 Bronco and a few other late 80's EFI setups with no problems. Other than letting the filter get plugged. I have a couple of spares that I pulled off of cars at PnPull. Mid to late 80's Lincoln's and Mercury's abound there. Mine has been on since '95 with zero failures. I'm sure that the day I forget my spare it will die!

that should be the E2000...Ford used it in most their EFI systems around that time...I am using the E2000 for my system too...can't comment too much on it personally since I have yet to really drive my buggy. With that said, there are too many guys that have had success with the E2000 with TBI setups to not go with it IMO. If you are finding it cheaper than $90 then show me where...everywhere I searched wanted $100+ for it (but I know its price fluctuates)...I too have a spare E2000 for incase mine dies, but I found it form a guy on PBB that bought it but never used it...brand new for $45, now when one fails I'll throw in the other and take the bad one back for another new one:D

has worked on my CPI for five + years now.

the regulator will send the used fuel back to the tank.

my spare pump is rated at 95 psi.
I see,

Where do these babies come from? Summit? Best price that is... ;)

mine came form checker (long story, but it was basically free:D) anyways...usually they run about $100, but I have heard of guys picking them up form autozone or the likes for as low as $85-$90...

When I was building my new tank, I was told that the E2000 was only designed to be a secondary pump. I didn't want to take the chance of burning one up on the trail, so I went with NAPA's P5000. It was a little more than the others, around $100, but the PSI numbers were almost perfect for my Toy V6.

Autozone told me $80.00 for the e2000. I paid just over $90.00 (if I remember right) for the 2182.

I wish someone could pull off a group-buy on this.

I have a friend who has an account with Carquest, but Carquest said $112.00 for the E2000, so I don't think it would save us much.

One more thing - Napa quoted me $73.00 for a True-Flow brand #2P74028, but it only had a 1 year warrantly. Their Napa brand P74028 was $90.00.

well, Fords do use two pumps one in tank and one frame rail pump. The one in tank is more of a lift pump and the frame rail pump is for delivery...so if you have it setup so the pump is lower than your tank you shouldn't have any problems...and like I said before, there are too many guys that have had success with the E2000 to say it wont/shouldn;t work because it does :D

i have the holly projection pump...........its so loud i can hear it whine when i am cruisin down the road and gettin on it........i dont know if its the pump or my cruiser tank doesnt flow enough for the pump..........is this loud noise normal?? i have also thought about a trail spare.......after all, all the guys i go with have sb's with carbs, so between like 6 rigs, there is one mechanical fuel pump spare...........

My projection pump is very quiet(I can barely hear it when I turn on the key and never when the engine is running). It does make more noise just before I run out of gas so you may want to check if your line from the tank is restricting flow to the pump. On the other hand I think I may have the only Projection system that runs really good so the quiet pump may not be the norm.

There are volvo electric fuel pumps on ebay every now and then for 30-40 bucks. they put out 45 psi. I don't know if they will work or not, of so they are cheap.
