Hi. I have an 85 4runner with the 22re and this thing is running like poo. It is a fresh rebuild about 10,000 ago and it has not ran right ever since. I have had it in to two local general mechanics (who shall remain nameless) and niether of them can nail down the problem. So I am wondering who is the best toyota mechanic (not the dealer) in the Provo area???

I hope I can get this thing running good.

Well the main symptoms are that it cuts out when at a neutral postion in the throttle, it runs rough, won't pass emissions, gutless.

I have replaced the TPS, EGR, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV......

Tried sea foam, 100 octane, and had it in to two different mechanics that couldn't figure it out either.

So I'm looking for a Toyota mechanic that has the proper OBD diagnostinc equipment that will tell him what the problem is. The two places I have taken it before did not have the toyota OBD tool to read the codes. So they just guessed and I paid money for parts that did not fix the problem.

I know a mechanic that works for Larry H Miller Toyota but lives in Lehi. He used to do side work. I can get ahold of him if you still need help. He's been working on Toyotas for years.

I think it is the timing, check that and then i would check the timeing chaine it very well could of been installed wrong aka the gear didn't line up with the marks, that would cause what your describing, i would check that first, if you have a timing light?who did the rebuild?

Look up vientine auto in the whits pages, ask for sukauh (sucon) he's not in provo (about 3600 south 3rd west slc) but its worth the drive, I always have him tune, tweak, fix, and figure out this for me. My whole toyota club goes to him and I've been bringing my toyotas to him since I was 16. His prices are extremely fair as well
