Big Eared Bird Eater

Coyote pups crack me up with their great big ears. I swear, their ears get to be as big as they will ever be at about 12 weeks old but the rest of them doesn't grow into the ears for 6 months.

I watched a family of coyotes for awhile last night. The mom was staying back and trying to call the pups to her, but the pups were way into chasing birds on the ground and paying her no mind. I'm not sure if the birds were quail or something else, but they weren't flying and the pups looked to be scoring a few of them. Here is a not very good picture of a pup going after a bird on the ground.

And a couple better pics of the Big Eared Bird Eater looking pretty satisfied with himself.

These guys were nearby too.

It is funny if you have never seen this in person your missing out, It is also funny to watch them run in circles for nothing like a butterfly
