Bike maintenance fluids and oils.

Possibly pull the head to look at the piston, I am considering a top-end rebuild.

It is cheap insurance to know that the bike is fresh.

This ^. You'll want to pull the entire cylinder for the inspection. Look close at the skirt of the piston for cracks. Most of the time they will develop cracks before the rings wear out. Clean the exhaust valve assembly while it's apart. Once you've made sure everything is in order you'll be good to go for a long time.

I've used ATF in the gear box of all of my 2t bikes. Cheap, shifts great, and you can get it from any truck stop or 7-11 in a pinch. You just need to remember to change it often. And I like to change my fluids as soon as I get home, not waiting until just before the next ride.

Doing so forces me to inspect the bike and uncovers any problems that may have come up sooner than later. That gives me plenty of time to fix the issues before the next ride.

I also like Klotz and Amsoil in the gas.

PJ1 for the air cleaner. A scoop of Tide works very well for cleaning the filter when using PJ1 or No-Toil. Avoid using No-Toil with UNI brand filters. Both are good products when used separately but something about that oil eats the glue and they come apart when used together.

I just got done cleaning my No-Toil filters (using the No-Toil oil and cleaner). I can't believe how amazing this stuff is. I used to dread cleaning air filters. It used to take forever. Now I put 1/4 cup of the crystals into 1/4 bucket of water, swish my filters around for a bit, and they're 100% clean with zero residue or dust. It's amazing stuff. I don't see myself ever using anything other than the No-Toil oil and cleaner (on my No-Toil foam). Thanks for the recommendation.

Great stuff isn't it  Another thing you can do is pour some oil into a large zip-loc bag and toss the air filter in with it. Squeeze it around for a bit and you can quickly get it covered evenly and not make a mess in the process. Latex gloves are your best friend for fitting the cage and installing the filter into the airbox.

Good to know. I will be cleaning mine Friday before our ride Saturday

All this talk about cleaning filters, etc just sounds silly when new no toil pre-oiled filters can be had for less than $12 a filter. If you couldn't tell by all the gimmicks, tricks, etc mentioned in this thread, it can be a huge pain to get a filter actually clean. Then re-oiling them is messy and annoying. If you decide you want to go through with the hassle of cleaning filters, I strongly recommend getting the same brand cleaning stuff as the filter oil you're using. I've tried using gas, laundry detergent, mineral spirits, plain dish soap, etc and some work better than other but nothing works as well as using the stuff that was made for their filter oil.

I always used redline in my 2stroke, mostly because I knew it was a good oil and I liked the smell of it. Klotz also smells really good too :D (you can always find Steve on the trail by smelling where he went  )

I think I still have some no toil oil and cleaner left, I'll bring it to you tomorrow if I do.
