Bravo to the Nat'l Guard

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Yes, that is good.

But I have to ask, what's up with the people of Herriman complaining about their houses being too close to Fort Williams, like it's the Forts fault? Hasn't the Fort been there a lot longer then most, if not all of those homes?

Same thing when people buy a home near the airport.. In San Diego at the former Miramar Naval Air Station, residents in the encroaching neighborhoods complained abot the jet noise from F14s and F18s. So, the Navy turned Fightertown USA over to the Marines. Now the residents complain to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar about the heavy lift CH-53E helicopter noise... Seriously, if you move close to a base, shut your freaking piehole... Good for the Utah National Guard...

No complaints from me. Just think some common sense needs to happen. National Guard and Herriman City need to create some fire breaks BEFORE a fire happens again. I remember the Nat. Guard trying to burn down the mountain about 10 years ago when I first moved in. Personally I enjoy watching the low flying Apaches and Blackhawks. When the Guard fires off the cannons/tanks, I tell my family that's the sound of freedom.

I am Air Force so I am Partial to Jet Noise as the sound of freedom I prefer.

I did read in an article that there was a few fire breaks up in the area that the fire jumped due to the strong winds... and that the national guard did try to expand those breaks before the fire got to them but the wind was just to strong...

Maybe they need bigger trees so that it will stop the wind more....

"Silver Eagle needs to rebuild or buy myt now ruined house! bla bla bla..."

Ya, shut the hell up people - you moved close to the refinery, landfill, airport, military base, mink farm, etc...

Good to hear about the base flipping the bill though. It was an honest mistake IMO.

Here's a note from someone on base (from another forum):

.. I was at Camp Williams Range Control Monday morning and talked with an old teammate who had been fighting the fire all night. He confirmed that it was .50 BMG and they were quite certain that no tracer was involved.

I distinctly remember looking at the sign at the entrance to Camp Williams Sunday morning when I entered the camp. It clearly said, "Fire Danger, Extremely High." with a dark red background. I have known Range Control to be real sticklers for the use of any pyrotechnics, to include tracers, on these extreme days but have never known them close all ranges during "Red Flag" conditions. On Friday, my unit was on the range under similar dry and high wind conditions but we were only firing 5.56 on confined ranges while the Machinegun Range has much more vegetation and even some steel targets (vehicles) to shoot at.
