Bit more progress this week. I finished pouring every other block cell and then started working on the forms for the top. I cut slots in 2x4 and anchored them with tap cons and fit 1.5”x1.5” angle iron across that I had left over from a project. Gonna finish forming it up today and see when I can get the concrete poured. Weather isn’t supposed to be great next week but hopefully Friday or Saturday. I got my refractory mortar from Forno Bravo in the mail, and my ceramic insulation board also, but need to finish the top before I can get to the “cool” stuff. Also if anyone needs any rebar I have a fair amount left over. 0104E36D-4E72-4DD3-956F-C98924AADE2D.jpeg8053DE99-603B-4418-BAA9-8A9951FBB4C8.jpeg75C5C379-8615-49F5-BA2D-972C8B9E1220.jpeg

you typically stoke the fire at the back and the chimney is in front to saturate the ceiling with heat..

Not much progress because of the awful weather but I did get the hi temp ceramic 1.5” thick insulation board laid out and cut out. Gonna add another 1.5-2” of perlite concrete mix on top and level itnoff and then get ready to lay my fire brick floor. 6C52800B-0696-46D5-AD83-64BDFDC29060.jpeg

The cold weather, early darkness and busy weekends are killing the progress on this project. But I am still researching on the best way to start the dome, and design, etc. I need to go pick up my forevricks up In slc but the last few weekends I have been helping friends move, working overtime or down in moab. But this weekend I decided I wanted to do something, anything so I built the arch that will be the main oven entrance. But ya not much but I got the radius nailed down which was the hardest part. This week is thanksgiving and I’m headed out of town, but hopefully I can get motivated again to start into it. 4CC69119-C0BD-404D-B3DB-54853FCE9A19.jpeg4CC69119-C0BD-404D-B3DB-54853FCE9A19.jpeg

Update*** I have the brick, I unloaded all of them which was a nightmare. I started laying out a herringbone floor pattern in the dark so I’m sure it looks really awesome. I have a ton of brick to cut which I can hopefully get done and ready to start setting some rows this weekend. Pics to come tomorrow...

Okay, started the layout. It’s the most critical part in my opinion so I do t want to screw it up but I feel like I have a good game plan. Just lots and lots of brick to cut. Oh joy....

You can see in the pictures how much air comes out of those things when you soak them in water. I read that you can soak them first and it reduces the amount of dust but there’s still plenty of it when I’m cutting. But it’s fun to see it coming along finally again

Got the insulation base figured out. I did the 1.5” insulation board with 1/2” of a cement and perlite mix on top. I leveled on top of that with some sand and then laid the bricks back out. It was more of a nightmare then I thought. But I got the basic layout worked out and started getting a few rows laid down. Feeling good about the progress.

I wasn’t that impressed with my wooden trammel tool so I made my own. It is adjustable not that it needs to adjust but I wanted to be able to fine tune it easily. 276D9DFA-A2F1-49EE-AAA6-37AAAA001BB7.jpeg276D9DFA-A2F1-49EE-AAA6-37AAAA001BB7.jpegF6C9C3C8-D7E7-40DF-8D1B-144D179F1D3C.jpeg77CE0270-168F-468A-B124-F2BC44EF5D86.jpeg

I wasn’t sure about welding cast to 3/4” rod, but since it’s only holding half a brick at a time, I thought it’d probably be fine. I been torquing on it and it seems pretty strong.

Update from today...

I got the main arch figured out, cut all the bricks for that and set them including the main arch. Have to let it dry overnight. The new trammel tool worked extremely well at holding the bricks on the correct angle thanks to the c clamp mod. It’s finally starting to look the part. I didn’t get pictures of the arch and stuff set because it was dark but here’s some I took earlier in the day. I’ll post the others tomorrow when it’s light out. Dome is done. I need to finish filling in the joint s with the mortar then I’ll start wrapping it with the insulation blankets and the top coat perlite render. Hopefully by next weekend it’ll be done and I can’t start doing some curing fires and cooking some pizza in here. 5F630F42-E207-455A-B0AC-E9C3EBE73DC7.jpegDDA29B45-C02B-47EB-8952-1FAAA9638D2C.jpegACCD33E2-811F-4E45-9ECD-D9B337E28B3E.jpeg5C916DBA-FF27-4F4D-A017-ADEBAF0FA3FF.jpegFEDDB718-AFB9-4582-ADF3-E56514BBA839.jpeg6068AF13-A060-47A7-90CF-F682DF66FB89.jpegFB4B33E3-9DC0-4D85-A26E-F5B1F087489F.jpeg
