Since you have access to a stick welder it's easy - really. I didn't believe this would work until I did it. Doesn't matter what rod you use, but use a larger diameter vs smaller rod. Turn heat down. Stick 2 or 3 rods together end-to-end by welding them. Once you have a long enough piece, cover it all except the end with duct tape (this step is important ;) ). Ground the carrier, and weld the long rod to the broken stub. Pull it out.

Yes, it really works quite well as long as you turn the heat down so the rod will simply stick and not strike an arc.

damn I wish I would have tried this before I gunked it up with jb weld and urethane. Both of which didn't work so I am going to dig in tommorrow and try getting the carrier out.

Maybe you should have tried it when I said it on the first page:rolleyes:

It's really not a big deal and 100 times better than grinding the xpin. xpin's are already weak as it is, but grinding almost half of it away to get it in, definately makes it worse. And that's something that will ALWAYS be weak, no matter where the ring and pinion are sitting. With just grinding the ring, it's only SLIGHTLY weaker and in only that area.

Looked at it last night and it looks nothing like the pics you posted. I would have to grind the ring gear down into the base of the gear to get it out, the pin is set alot farther back. I would post a pic of it but my internet at home is down.

That's ok... Just don't let the heat build up when you do it. You might be surprised after you get started, though, that you don't have to grind as much as you thought. It just seems like a lot when it's your ring gear and first time. :D

ahh, 44 carnage. Don't have anything to offer that hasn't been offered already.

You can add your broken pieces to my collection if you want.

It only took me a week but the damn thing is finally out. I made one last try with the urethane and used one that when prepped and primed correctly holds 1100 psi and it worked runing the seal but at least its out.
