Buggies and drive shafts

Just wondering what most of you are running - single or double cardan shafts? I normally use double cardan in my rigs but on the buggy I am thinking of just going single 1350s all around in the name of keeping things simple and strong. Also, this will make trail repairs much easier/quicker if necessary. Thoughts?

I used double cardon on mine (on my old buggy and on my current XJ thing). Vibrations suck just as much on buggies as on anything else. I like to use Toyota joints. They are strong and can operate at very high angles.

I just realized that I never replied to your PM. Sorry about that!

I'm running double cardons on the front and back of my t-case, mostly because that's what I had to work with at the moment and I like the extra little bit of angle you can get out of them, even though it may not be necessary.

Does anybody know what the strength differences are between double cardon's and single joint setups? It's my understanding that a double cardon is strong than a single joint at the same degree of angle. But straight on a singe joint is much better and more simple.

Ran 1410s throughout on my old buggy. I loved not worrying, plus the angles are better then 1350

I am running single 1350s on my buggy, but will upgrade to 1410s when they break. The 1410s will net me a little more working angle on the joint than the 1350's. My wifes tj, double cardons front and rear.

Mine's no buggy... but I treat it like one.

1310 DC's at the tcase. For more angle. 1310-1350 at the axles. Stupid I know, but they're cheapo quasi junkyard shafts and I have stock outputs on my d300, so I'll hopefully pop joints before output shafts.
I had 1.25" slip shafts but broke them so now 1.75" slips.

I think the most important thing is to get forged yokes and big slip shafts. With 1310's - I broke 2 stock DS yokes and two small slip shafts (each ds broke) and upgraded... now no issues.

I would never run a stock yoke, even a stock 1350 yoke, on my axle... when the yoke breaks and the pinion head drops into the ring gear= kabooom!

No worries Shane! I know you were sick and I was in the same boat a couple weeks ago myself, so I can imagine how unimportant answering my PM was in comparison. :D

Thanks for giving your input everyone. :) I guess I have to decide what to do now. I am thinking that I will still run single in the front because it's going to be a 2-peice shaft, but you guys have me thinking about doing a 1350 CV in the rear just to help with vibes, as I do tend to see some highway time from camp to the trail.
