Buggy for junior...

Been thinkin lately that I should build a buggy for my son, since he's gonna need his own rig soon. I would like your ideas on drive train. I'm leaning towards a 3/4 scale 2 seater, want it light, VERY cheap. prolly a 4 banger w/auto, axles aren't really an issue at this point. Remember, this is not, "hey, this would be way cool" this is "get my kid his own junk to drive" thanks.

I think it would be sweet to see something like this.

I think that if you wanted cheap, you could pull a motor out of a YJ TJ or XJ. If you pull the 2.5, you get MPI and the ability for a wide variety of aftermarket parts. Plus you can find these things dirt cheap because nobody wants the 2.5L.

Well, now I'm thinking smaller, ATV. Anyone know the availibilty of wrecked 2wd atv's? Shaft driven to a sami t-case to narrowed CJ axles.

Check with your insurance agent. Recently, I was looking for a totalled Banshee for parts, and my agent was able to find a couple through their claims dept.

I know what you're sayin B-rad, I was in that same position last year, had some custom built axles out of my CJ5 and it took a long time to sell them. I'll build my own axles for now on, it's cheaper to do anyway.

I know Sarge had a sammy a while back for a killer deal...I dunno if he still has it but you might want to get a hold of him and see if he still has it...

It's been a few weeks, but I saw one for less than $800 at Pick 'n Pull. Don't know if it ran. But they were selling it as a whole vehicle. Couldn't pull parts off of it.

NOPE, the one on ebay? still for sale. The guy is on this forum too. pretty sweet deal, lifted, spare parts, and more. I would strip it down, using the engine, t-case, axles, and find an auto tranny for it. Sell what you can from the sammy after that. Then fab a small tubed frame for it, get it running, and you have a cute little rig for the kid. You'd be the coolest dad ever!

Thanks for all the suggestions on stuff you have seen for sale, but I know Jeremy pretty well and this project is something for the future. So would you please keep your comments on ideas for building it. Thanks again!!

what about one of those old honda Odyssy's--little atv's with a roll cage? put some time into that and I bet you'd have something. maybe just soup up hte suspension a little, some better tires and some engine work and I bet it would do well

Just a reminder Sami. I'm only trying to help Jeremy out while he's not home. Let's not take it personally.;)
