Build Thread: the '92 Runner, AKA "blue"

yep, that will keep the shifter holes and boots in the same position. drive shafts, speedo cable and backup/4wd wiring will all be the same for it too.
im not sure on the crossmember and rubber mount, if u are lucky, u will just need the rubber mount for the t-case too, but if the crossmember is wrong, u will need one off an 89-95 4cyl pickup too.

ohh.. and i forgot to add that the front end will need some work too, there will be no vacume lines for the add from the gear driven t-case so u might want to swap in a front diff from a 86-95 non-add truck with some manual hubs. The bellhousing, clutch and slave will also be the same for the swap.

Karnage Fab is right on the money  Also keep in mind not all forward shift (gear driven) cases are the same. Many years ago I found out the hard way Toyota made shorter rail forward shifts in the 93ish-95 pickups which are sorta rare. It's been years since I've messed with this stuff but that's something to look out for if you're looking at buying a new trans and t-case separate.

Something else to look into if you decide to swap transmissions. This is what I did on the Rot Box and it worked out great. It requires a transmission that would have come factory with a forward shift t-case. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyo...eap-twin-stick-single-case-forward-shift.html In a nutshell this would give you a single t-case and two shifters. One for HI-LO one for 2WD-4WD giving you the 2WD-LO option for very little money.

Tyler, my old diff is gone but I still have the non-ADD tube and the IFS manual hubs, lemme know if you need them.

I like the name. :)

wow, lots of info there! Thanks for saving our butts K Fab!!!! It looks like I'll sell the red runner w/ the 4.7 case then and start collecting parts for a swap into the '92. I don't really want to remove the t case, crack it, remove the 4.7 gears, find some stock ones, put them in, and reinstall the now stock case back into the red runner, just to have some 4.7's sitting around for the future swap.

it looks like my wrenching day is canceled haha! I might try and get some roof rails from the junkyard this week to install on Saturday or something....it looks like I'll be swinging by steve's for awhile to join the party finally!

Thanks a bunch to those of you who were willing to help me out! I really appreciate it!

ps, I need a 4.10 third to put into the red 'runner. open, welded, spooled, I don't care as long as the bearings are good. I do have the 3rd that I pulled out that has a bad bearing that I could trade plus some cash if that might work for you...

Thanks!
