Suggestion with what tank to use. Contact Sunfire Offroad. They have a cylinder type tank that you drop in all your factory pump, pick-up ect....

I love this tank, it will run practically upside down.....ask me how I know. Also, you can use your rear seat!!

Hey Greg...I will post up/send you pictures of my new rear suspension set-up. I think its kinda cool if I say so myself. I actually put the rear upper arms through the bottom of the tub to keep everything low.

Also, beware of those Tera made joints. A guy here in San Antonio built a Bruiser with those joint and they distort under load. He has to rebuild them already with only a few runs. I run Johnny joints and have yet to wear them out after 3 friken years of swinging one tons under my TJ.

Also, I do not run coil-over for the sole reason.........old school coils are just way more stable. I run 4.5 RE coils and my junk is more stable that any other coil-over rig I have seen.

I do not run any sways bars either! Try that with coil-over or air shocks.

Greg, Tell me what you need to see on my rig and I will snap a bunch of pictures for you.

Thanks for the input Tim! I'd love to see a pic of your fuel cell from Sunfire Offroad. I looked on their site & they don't have a picture. I'm planning on running the TeraFlex arms, like I said before, I've seen them abused harder than I'll abuse them & they held up fine. The right person can break anything, IMO... a few years of competition have shown me that.

I do think coilovers have their place & I do think there's places that they'll outshine coils hands down... but for me and this build, I'm going to stick to coil springs for the reasons mentioned before, affordability & they're easy to work with.

I don't necessarily agree with this... What part of that joint could distort? Take a Tera joint apart and set it next to a Johnny Joint and tell me what the difference is. The technology behind each one is almost identical. The only reason either one of the joints would distort under load is if they are not set up properly (joint not lined up properly for the applied loads...)

Bryson,

I have heard there was some issues with the urethane on some of the joints. Curtis from Jusr 4 Fun had some issues.

Rubber is for a different application:D

Use a nylon type race and you will have no problems.

Speaking of the high fender kit, here is a pic of the LJ I was in last week in Oregon for the Detroit Locker Trail Tour. We had a blast. He has the AEV hood and high fender kit and fit the Mickey Thompson 40s very well.

That's Brad Kilby's, no? I believe it also has a Hemi :D

I'm glad it works for you, and your set up looks nice. But that statement is purely personal opinion and many would disagree with you including myself.

Yes, it is clearly my opinion, but It seems to me every coil-over rig needs to run sway bars to control the body from rolling all over......or maybe I haven't seen a comp rig/street rig yet that runs coil-overs without sway bars that actually works correctly without a bunch of body roll.

Strictly my opinion......and cut me some slack....in San Antonio all I see are LowRiders with 12inch wire rims with the wrong off-set......5 kids (all under the age of 12) in the backseat with cell phones pressed to their ears and a pregnant lady driving with a fist full of "Lonestar cards" (welfare cards) asking if she can buy beer and cigs with them!

I call it like I see it. Perhaps your right, Tera MFG does have an outstanding reputation for building quality suspension parts!

You also forgot multiple limiting straps or winches.

I do agree that coilovers have their place on comp rigs and desert runners. They do seem to suffer on SWB jeeps because of increased weight transfer ETC.

JMHO. I dont see a point in running coilovers on a LCG TJ project when the body wont allow that much uptravel to speak of and tons of axle droop cannot be achieved without super soft coils and the unloading that comes with it.

FWIW I am going down to 2" coils when I upgrade to one-tons and 37s this winter.

Time for an update!

I rolled the TJ out of the garage today & washed the road salt off it. It's in pretty sad shape right now, no drivetrain, no fenders and a dented hood. That hood will give me something to practice my cutting skills for raising the fender line!

I got my TH350 back from the builder, it looks great! I'm very impressed, the guy does this out of his garage & was adamant about getting a ride in this Wrangler once it's built... :greg: A torque converter is on it's way from Summit Racing, 12" with 2000 RPM stall.

And the Atlas II t-case, driver drop, 4.3 to 1, 32 spline outputs.

And the 2003 5.3l Chevy V8... 280HP, 330Ft/Lbs. It has about 40k miles & is quite clean. I need to have the harness worked on and have the ECU reflashed for this application. I got the motor mounts and TH350 adapter from Advanced Adapters.

The suspension is pretty exciting... I'll be building the TJ with a TeraFlex Pro LCG for an Unlimited Wrangler. This will allow a wheelbase stretch at around 10" in the rear. I'm going to shoot for a 106" wheelbase once it's all said & done. After talking to the guys up at TeraFlex about what I wanted to accomplish with this build, we decided to go with a set of 3" coil springs and a 1" body lift. The body lift will help make room for the Atlas t-case and the Chevy 5.3 V8. It's going to be fun squeezing 40" tires under 4" of lift. :greg:

We also added a Belly-Up skidplate to the suspension. That ought to help keep the underbelly of the TJ off the rocks, even more so with only 3" of suspension lift.

I'll be writing a full review of the install & testing of the suspension in the future.

And finally, the tires. I picked up a set of near-new 40x13.5x17 Maxxis Creepy Crawlers. The wheels are on their way, just black steelies.

Yeah... it's going to get painted a different color. I'm actually going to build it up as the 'official RockyMountainExtreme.com vehicle' and use it to promote the site. It'll end up painted with the same colors as the site, mabey even do a wrap on the hood or something.

Couple big weekends... I have lots of stuff to cut off. :D
