Bypassing an xj's neutral safety switch.

put in in neutral. my wifes xj won't start in park sometimes... if you start run to the store closeby and shut it off it won't turn over unless you put in in neutral
Neutral won't work.
Here's my deal, the metal shaft that goes from the shift linkage through the auto tranny and through the switch has this nut on the end of it and a little hex tabbed washer. It would lossen up every once and a while and then it wouldn't start in park if I ever had it parked on an incline.
I'd get out and tighten that nut down and low and behold it would start up. Last time I did this I tightened it down a bit too good and stripped the threads on that metal shaft that goes through everything.
It won't fire at all now so I'd just like to get rid of that whole problem and not have to tapp some threads on that rod.
