I'm about to start checking into what's local to SW Tooele. Hopefully there are some more options other than Qwest, because I despise them. Got spoiled on hispeed at my parents and I'm ruined now.

Umm...between me, and my brother downstairs, we probably download 50 gigs of stuff a month. He has a couple terabytes worth of Hollywood Movies, music, TV Episodes and general media. I am surprised those motorola sharkfin doesn't melt. We have a modded X-box networked to his media server. We should honestly just cancel the cable tv because we have everything on the server anyways. Now that he just put together a set top box with windows media center, we are going to have to put another array in his server to handle all that. He has that thing tasked through next week.

My point is...you can't use too much because we are running this thing as fast as we can, you were probably hosting a server, which is against your agreement so you deserved to get kicked! We dont host servers, we just torrent.

I built a set top media center that consists of two heavy objects, some books in the middle, and a reading light.

man, I need to find a more efficient and less productive way of wasting my time. those set-top super-media dork-entertainers for sale? ;)

I wouldn't have said anything but it mentioned a modified x-box and I couldn't hardly live with myself if I left it un touched. :greg:

I am teaching a class at the U next semester...you might want to sign up for it. "Basics of Modernity", it teaches the use of e-mail, telephones, fax machines, and pencils. I even spend a whole week bringing people out of the dark ages by hooking up an army surplus 20klb PTO winch to a blown alcohol burning 1000ci dragster motor to cavemen and wrenchin them into modern times.

The month they canceled me on I used 256GB, the month before was more. Don't believe me? I'll scan the cancelation/ban notice

Thats it?

Edit: Oh and no I wasn't hosting a server, and no that's not why they banned me. Although I did ul a considerable amount, the ratio was way skewed towards the dl. Trust me I KNOW why they banned me, I spent 2 weeks talking to everyone I could get ahold of about it.

I'm back on 1.5/896 DSL (at the time the "pro" Comcrap was 4/384) and I keep it pinned at 145KB/s down and 30KB/s up, add to that all my web surfing and misc stuff that I xfer to friends (I can still push 50+KB/s to them while uling 30KB/s in the other room), and they never say a word to me about it, soon I'll be on a 7Mb/896 line from quest.

Oh and btw, my dl/ul's consist entirely of linux iso's -_-

UTOPIA is already available in parts of Orem, i'm signed up for it to go in as soon as it's available in my area. $35 for VOIP TV with more channels than cable (including local) and 10mbps ul/dl Internet.

congrats on the teaching gig. I'm actually more technologically inclined than I let on (I am a manager at an electronics store and own a digital photography company after all). I just view technology as a means by which to get necessary stuff done faster so that I can spend more free time doing things that contribute to my own experience in life and personal growth--like being outdoors and traveling, reading, or general social experiences (like interacting with live people--not x-box live people).

For some people, computers, xboxes and such are entertaining hobbies and I completely respect that. But one of my hobbies is making fun of everyone elses. It's just the asshole in me. :D

Murray City has something coming out (not sure of the provider) that is fiber optic, but the speeds that I was reading about were 100 MB/s up/down......I'll search around and see what I can find. It's supposed to be available in quite a few cities around here pretty soon.

Ah, it's Utopia again...here's a quote:

As a minimum, UTOPIA will deliver 100 Mbps of bandwidth to every connected home and 1 Gbps of bandwidth to every business.

10mpbs up and down is strictly what is used for the internet connection in the package i'm talking about, it's 100mbps total. You can ask for them to allot more to internet if you wish.

Amen

Tech sucks me in if I'm not careful. I'm much happier and more focused when I'm driving, shooting, rideing or walking on something (tech always brings out the ADD in me :mad2: )

cable? Your IP tells me that you are on Emerytelcom DSL.

And the cable company in Carbon County does suck, very badly. They are PRECIS and last I heard is that their customer connection bank is relayed via satelight. Not sure if this is how it still is or not... but that's how it was when I lived down there last year.

Nope, but we use the same Tier one Provider -sprint-, Traceroute it.

I was interested in the Utopia project, until they brough it by my house. They are doing aireal fiber, tied up, There are a lot of places where they don't meet hight code, I don't think it is going to be very reilable, last I heard, they were having problems getting vendors to provide services because part of their contract is paying a portion of maintainence, and the vendors see the same thing that I did.

From what I have seen of Utopia, they are handing off 100bT connections - not giving 100Mb/s to their customers. same thing with the GigE services, agian it is the size of the connection, not the size of the pipe. for the most part, UTOPIA will be a 32 split Passive Optical Network. which with the proper over subscription could deliver effectively 4HD Streams and 5Mb of usable internet bandwith
