Silver Sage... Yeah, another blast from the past. Once I was camped in the Vernon Hills opening weekend of the deer hunt. Saturday night after dark. Already had my buck, weather was terrible, real cold and snowing like crazy. So I was in my tent cooking some dinner. Couple young guys (even younger than me, and I was only 18 at the time...) come walking up out of the dark. Long story made short, they were lost. REAL lost :D. There wasn't room in my tent for all of us, but I made room for them to take turns inside the tent to try and get warm and made them bacon sandwiches and shared my pork and beans with them. The one kid kept telling me his grandma owned the Silver Sage and I kept pointing to the lights in the distance down in the valley and telling him those lights WERE the Silver Sage and he just flat out did not believe me. Kept saying they "couldn't be". Finally, I chained up my Subaru (hadn't been snowing when I got there but it was deep now...) and drove them out to the highway. Didn't want to unchain, just to drive a few miles to Vernon then turn around and come back and have to chain up again. So, anyway, I waited there by the highway until some people came by that were looking for the two lost guys. I remember one of the older guys that showed up (Dad maybe?), pointing at the lights down in Vernon and hollering at the kid "Those lights ARE Vernon!!".

Don't get up to Brigham city much that is a shame, I think the idle isle is about the best home style cooking anyplace I have eaten. It has been there since before the great depression. And is still owned by the original family got to be some sort of record. This thread reminds me of Alice's back home they have a big table that they call the liars table where the men catch up and tell tall tales I love it. I would go there now if it were not 1300 mile trip.

In Ogden there is the No Frills Diner on 12th street just over the tracks when driving east from the freeway, very cool atmosphere but are only open for breakfast and lunch. We have been twice and the food is amazing and original, they even have a 12 egg omelet challenge that if you eat it all it's free.

Model a cafe in mapleton. Awesome biscuits and gravy. Joes cafe in Orem. It's like a cafe from the south. Even better biscuits and gravy, and grits.

Is Cotton Bottom gone? I drove past the other day and it looked closed. Can't say I'd be surprised. Worst "garlic" burger I've ever had and the service was below abysmal.

Busy Bee is a great dive bar. Their garlic burger was worlds ahead of Cotton Bottom. Best garlic burger in town IMHO is at Joni's Deli on 1700 S between State and Main. Fantastic! Only open for lunch, though.

Cotton Bottom is still there and the Garlic Burgers are still as good as ever :D I've had the poor service days there, but the burger always tastes delicious.

For some good "diners", Sill's Cafe in Layton is good, Virg's has decent breakfast, there's a place in Midvale off 7200 S. and just east of I-15 that was pretty tasty (I don't remember the name, I think something like Midvale Mining Co.) and Stockton Miners Cafe is good as well but clear out in BFE :D.

For bar food, Copper Creek in West Valley has a great Jalapeño Burger and their fried cheese curds are fantastic. Their Monte Cristo is pretty good as well.

Thats a shame. Thats a great location for a quality joint to go in. I've been there a handful of times and I've had better day old food from McDonalds. Perhaps they once used to be good, but thats a long time ago.

But to each their own, right?

Burger King in Draper. They know how I like my BK Veggie (lite ketchup, lite mayo, no salt on fries), free wifi, and Fox News is always on the flat screens in the dining area.

Since the Californians hate Fox News, the dining room is generally empty and my table is always available. I can eat, watch Hannity and not be disturbed by other people's mishegoss.

Was this back when it was still called Maria's?

I vote for the silver sage if you want old school cowboys.
I vote for Betty's in vernal if you want greasy, good food
I vote for Angie's in Logan if you want a ham steak breakfast
I vote for a time machine and 99 cents if you want all you can eat biscuits and gravy(missed a lot of first periods in high school for this one)
I vote for tangies in American fork if you want cigarette ashes in your omelet. I won't eat there again.

More props for Chicks in Heber. Had their chicken fried steak a month or so ago, and all I can say is WOW. Their breakfast rocks too.
