Campgrounds in the Uintas?

I need some help... we're thinking about doing a family campout thing this Summer and considering staying in the Uintas. I'm not super-familiar with the area and I'm looking for info on campgrounds up there.

I'm looking for a nice campground that is close to a lake with decent fishing, neat trails nearby, and has running water for toilets & showers. Prefer something clean that the ladies will dig. Any suggestions?

I've been searching on Utah.com, but the info isn't too helpful. :-\

So you don't want primitive, right? What about Currant Creek? If you're open to primitive, I'm heading up to a spot that's not too far from Strawberry, but not right on the lake. I've never been but my sister and her husband have been up there several times and they say it's quite nice. Plus, you can shoot guns right outside of camp :D

Currant creek has to be the nicest campground in the state as far as I'm concerend, plus the fishing is great..... usually.

Everytime I've been there (twice) the fishing has been lousy. Great location, I usually hit a few trails when there.

Greg, also check out reserveamerica.com and recreation.gov. Those are the sites you have to use to reserve spots anyways. (If you do it online atleast)

Take a look at Moon Lake on the south slope, there is a nice campground, a lodge, good fishing, hiking trails, and some 4x4 trails that will take you near some lakes. Another one that we like is Spirit Lake on the north slope, it also has nice camping, a lodge, lakes to hike to, and many miles of dirt road to drive on.

Great info so far, keep the suggestions coming! I'm checking out the campgrounds that have been mentioned, as well as the reservation sites.

Yeah Caleb, we don't want primitive camping... too many females that are demanding showers. :)

You'll want to reserve sites in advance anywhere on the Mirror Lake Highway. Last time we went there was not a single campsite available anywhere in the canyon. Alternatively, you can go up above Duchesne and Mountain Home. There's a road called Rock Creek Road. There are a few nice campgrounds in there and it's a lot less popular than Mirror Lake (because it's farther from Salt Lake). There's a reservoir at the top and a campground right below the dam that's nice.

Electric Lake (?) above Fairview is pretty cool. I haven't been there for quite a few years, though. It was not well known at that time, but maybe it is now?

Washington lake, trial lake area has some amazing hiking/fishing spots. You can literally hike for miles and not leave a lake shore. The bathroom situation is a big deal for my fam so we go there. Campgrounds are set up nice and close to trailheads and the lake shore of Washington lake. Hiking to Clyde lake is an hour(or so) hike and brook trout are hanging close to the shore in some downed trees. Lilly lake is good fishing and a couple of hundred yards from the parking lot. Can I come? Kidding, I actually want to explore Murdock basin, less civilized but some cool off pavement adventures. There is a 3 foot deep meadow river that is full of fish and mosquitoes that I need to re-visit.

I love Spirit Lake. I like the lodge for a nice tasty burger. The only problem with Spirit Lake is that the Misquitos are ridiculous, they seem worse up there than anywhere else in the Uintahs I have been.

Spirit Lake is a cool place. We spent a day there a couple years ago and have been meaning to go back.

smith morehouse and ledge fork, out of the kamas area are female friendly, but just like all good "neighborhood camping sites" , they fill up fast
