I have a Dana 44 from a 84' wagoneer. It has the vaccum disconnect. It was a free axle so I went with it. I would like to know if I can get rid of the disconnect and put a solid shaft in the place of the short side vaccum setup. Has anyone done this? Is it just a matter of replacing the shaft with a solid one? Or not really that easy? Any help would be great.

so weak

first off I think you are crazy for going with such a week axle. Then again you really don't wheel all that hard so I guess that might not be a bad thing for you. And oh yeah I dont have the answer to your question just thought I would start a little trash talking. When are we getting out again?

you can put in a solid one peice shaft but you will have to remove and replace the inner seals on that side.your axle has the axle seal after the second shaft right at the shift fork.you have to remove that one and put one or change the one at the carrier.

The disco housing doesn't accept the passenger side seal that a non-disco uses when you replace the two-piece axle with a one-piece. It takes a special seal you can get from Warn's or Randy's Ring and Pinion's conversion kit that comes with a block-off plate as well.

from what i remember there might be a seal for by the sift motor so you can just replace that one .i would go to NAXJA.org register and use the search feature to look for previous threads about it.

Badger,
The housing he is talking about is nothing like the XJ/YJ/TJ one. the disconect is part on the dif, actually cast into the center section.

I have worked on a few, been many years!! not sure, but I suspect you could use an after market shaft, that does not neck down, and have the area on the shaft polished to line up with the stock seal in your housing....
