As background, I am a ham radio operator and continue to be active in that regard. I also use the CB frequently.

Just out of curiosity, what is your view on usage of the CB?

I have never been able to find a good "user guide" to CB's, like, how do you find say, the guy 2 cars in front of you on the highway? etc.

I use mine quite a bit, pretty much only to listen since I need to tune it properly, nobody can hear me.... or they just ignore me.

I think they are pretty handy when out traveling. When i was riding pro and on the road everyday i loved them just to keep in touch with the truckers on traffic and to bs. Nowadays i like having them when on the trail. They are in my trail rigs to keep in touch with the rest of the group

I've got a hand held in the truck and I need to get my old cb back into my rig because they are nice to have on trails.

I don't understand the point of the poll. What would I like to see for who? Myself? Users in general?

I think CB's suck, due to their limited capabilities.. Which is why i'm going in for my HAM license this week. CB certainly has it's place, don't get me wrong, but the HAM is far more useful for the majority of traveling that I do.

It's only as useful as the number of other people who have them in your group.

I used to use CBs all the time on trips. I haven't used one in years now. We tend to use family band hand-held radios now. They work great, they're compact and portable. That said, there is a CB in the XJ, and I haven't taken it out yet...

I think every rig should have some sort of communication. If you travel with other hammers, get a ham. If you travel with other CB'ers, get a CB, if you travel with other 2-way radios, get them. I'm to the point where I loathe going on trips with people that do not have operating radios of some sort, for a short trailride its not a big deal but if your covering hundreds of miles and getting spread out is common, a radio goes a long ways to keeping the sanity, especially for the trail leader and tail gunner.

When I travel on the highway, I place a sign in the truck window of which channel i'm on. It has come in handy a couple of times. I'm on a personal mission to convert people to that idea.

Thats a good idea, but isn't that what 19 is for? :) Then you just agree on a channel to switch to. Thats the way I always thought it has been anyway.

I understood that 19 was East/West, 18 was North/South. Or something like that. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I'd love to learn more about CB etiquette.
