Cherokee vs Grand

Which makes the better/easier (perhaps cheaper) way to build a rig with rear locker and enough clearance to run 33s?

How much lift does each require?

I would agree with the 4.5 inches of lift (some fender trimming) and you can fit 33's.. have no clue on the grand though

cherokees? you'd be better off with the FZJ80

Agree 100%.

Would love to sell the Montero Sport and pick up a Cruiser, factory lockers with 4" OME lift.

Anyone got one they want to trade?

But, need to think Jeep as well since they as SOOOO much easier to find.

it's probably easier and cheaper to build a cherokee.

If you're willing to trim, you can fit 33's on 3.5" on a ZJ. 4.5 is probably about right. I'm at 5.5 and run 35's and could probably run a little less lift.

I ran 35s on my old ZJ with an RE 4.5 kit and minor trimming.

XJs are the way to go for bang for the buck. The grands are cool with 5.2/5.9s.

Hell, anything is better than a montero-_-

xj is the way i went.

Rubicon Express XJ 4.5" SF W/REAR SPRINGS - $1,007 -
or
Rubicon Express ZJ 4.5" SUPER-FLEX KIT 93-98 - $1,463 -

there are other lifts out there but i like my rubicon express xj lift. i just wish i was smart enough to get rear springs.

the grand would be cool because there isnt a lot of them out there and if you go with a zj get the v8. i have heared the straight 5 or v6 dont have the power.

good luck

Hmmm....never seen a 5 cyl. Jeep and V6 aren't available until recently.

Oh, and FWIW. I've got 135K on a 6 cyl. ZJ and put 185K on a 6 cyl. XJ. There's benefits and drawbacks to both platforms. Find a solid rig and go from there.

if I were to do it over, I'd bild the XJ for wheelin.
But I fell in love/lust with the output of my 5.9, and I'm fairly commited at this point.
From what I've gathered, the 5.2 isn't much more thirsty for fuel than the I6, but the 5.9 is a bit more thirsty than the 5.2

Running a RE 5.5" LA kit with 33" tires with a Locked up rear dana 44. I trimmed up the front fenders but haven't cleared the rear at all.

I get about the same milage on the 4.0 as I did with the 5.2. Offroad I got better range with the v8 than I do with the 4.0

RE 4.5 Superflex, plus spacers and shackles to clear 33s with front fender trimming. No flares front or rear, they were "flexed off."
