Do those shock ends not have any misalignment?

Yes

Pics dont show it well but the tabs were hitting the shock only when on a full angle.

With the clearancing the bottom of the shock hits before the sharp parts on the top. Plenty of misalignment now

Mine did the exact same thing. One of my shocks is chewed up because of it. My solution on the new buggy was the same as yours.

The time is getting close when im gonna have Josh and Team 208 motorsports rewire the rig for me. I really need to get everything that needs wired mounted before he works his magic. Im moving everything i can to the back of course since there is soooo much room:shaking:

So i found this half sheet of aluminum tread plate for a price i couldnt pass up. Should give me room to mount a few things to.

After putting that piece on i loved it. But i realized how hard it is going to be to plate the back of it. I may chop the radius off. I havent decided yet.


I learned another trick from Skipped Link here. Whenever ive cut aluminum plate before ive always used either the plasma cutter or a jig saw. He suggested using a skill saw with a carbide tipped wood blade. I was a little skeptical but was soon amazed how well it actually cut the plate. Made a helluva shavings mess but well worth it. And interesting enough, i took the saw back to work the next day and the blade didnt seem any less sharp than a new blade. So if you dont have a sheer...try a skill saw!

I was told that same trick about cutting aluminum and the skilsaw and wood blade made short work of some 5/8ths I was working with. Thank goodness I only needed straight cuts. Rig is looking great.

But the shifter will sit at the back left corner and my hand is always on that since thats where the rear steer controls are. Its a little low and to far forward to rest arms on...i think

After a few minor adjustments....

I finally got my ride height set in stone






Really i was just measuring for drivelines. Thats full droop. I was worried about the rear but after measuring angles, the 1410 driveline should work. They are at Tom Woods getting shortened right now

Next up was rear bump stops. I ordered new cans and a mount kit from Poly. My plan all along was to put the bumps on the inside of the frame. The upper link mounts are designed with a flat top to make the bump pad on.

I knew the bump was gonna be stupid close to the lower radiator output but everytime i held the bump up by the rad...i thought it would clear

Well....

There was no way. I maybe could have cut the output off and angled it inboard and maybe clear. But i decided to see if they would clear the shocks on the outside of the frame



Plenty of room right??



Had to drag it out and test it. Again

After a few attempts i found the sweet spot between the bypass and the coilover. Of course. Tight

Since it was out, i decided may as well look at what the front was gonna do with the new shock mounts

Ive been laughing about that meme. They are a 9 ton axletech IFS. Ive checked them out. They are extremely cool!

BUT. What your looking at in that pic is 3000 lbs. ive been crying about how heavy the planetaries are. Drop in the bucket compared to them

I had to work saturday so i dont have to much to update


Got some spacers made for the limit strap mounts.



I also got all the banjos installed on the calipers. I didnt quite leave enough room for them on the bracket so i just used the die grinder and made room



Pics suck. Ill get more when i get to plumbing



There are a couple advantages to being as slow as i am.

One being these stock MRAP wheels im using. They are dirt cheap so of course people are buying them. BUT....they are dicing peoples tires like crazy. So as i sat back and watched 5 or 6 people ruin good new tires, mine sat. Haha

The issue is the beads are waaaay to high and stick out to far for a passenger tire. Especially at low pressure. The tire folds over and cuts the sidewall on the massive lip.


One of mine had a bad o ring. It didnt hold air for more than 30 min. I had a buddy that happened to have 4 orings sitting so he sent them to me. While i popped the wheel apart i decided to cut down the lip. No rocket science here. I used the outer lip as a guide for the plasma cutter





Then just rounded them off with a flap wheel




All mounted back up and not leaking




I obviously am only doing the outside lip for right now. I have a plan in the works for lighter wheels so i dont want to give these to much love. Hopefully it doesnt bite me


But EVERY tire ive seen ruined by these wheels has been on the outside. Ill knock the other 3 out soon


You can see my old Stazwork wheel underneath. Worked great for a stand. Haha

I measured the lip on those wheels at .75". So thats what i was shooting for with mine.

Looks good, but you're going to bend/break that bolt that your limit strap is on. I'd add a third tab to the end of that bolt, to double shear the limit strap.

Im hoping to be able to shorten the spacers. It will depend on where the preload adjusters end up after i get coils. At that point i will weld the spacer to the tab and add a gusset. Hopefully that will be enough to keep the bolts straight

The Scout will be going to a shop next week to get the transmission swapped. It will be put on a vehicle lift. So i just needed to get the limit straps on quick so the axles can hang

Played around with a little color. Havent decided what im doing yet but the wife wants it blue again

The Scout was originally baby blue when i got it and thats how it was when we were dating in it. Cant bring myself to paint it baby blue again but the wife says she likes this one so we will see
