Hey All,
Just wondering if anyone is running one of those Chevy V8 in a Truck, Tahoe or Suburban that switch from 8 cylinders to 4 to increase fuel mileage?

Any problems?

Does it work?

Anyone?

thanks in advance....

Unlike the days of past like with the Cadillac 8-6-4 engine where it was actually a mechanical process and highly flawed, in today's engines it's done via the computer and it's just a matter of the computer shutting off the fuel injectors and the spark to the plugs. Chrysler's version is called MDS (multi displacement system?)

I think!!! :ugh:

I had to rent a burb a while back for work and it had it. it seemed like we were getting high teens for mileage...

I am just looking for some "other feedback/experiences"

I have it on my Tahoe. I can't really tell you much about it other than if you put a lift on and don't change the gearing, it will never be in a sweet spot in the RPM range and drop 4 cylinders. If I remember right, before I put the lift on, it would run on 4 cylinders running down the flat highway and that was about it.

Prior to the lift, probably around 18-20 on the highway, depending on how fast I was driving. The Tahoe was stock for about 3 weeks, so I did not put a lot of miles on it. Since the lift I'm probably around 13-15 regardless of highway or city driving.

I am sure I have burned enough extra fuel to pay for 3 R&P changes, but it is a company vehicle and I don't personally have to pay for the gas, so it has not been as painful.

I have a stock 07 Suburban with it and love it. It averages about 17 with mostly city driving. It drops to 4 cylinders in the 45-55 mph range on level ground the most. On the freeway, it mostly only drops to 4 when you are on a slight downgrade. It is enough to make a difference. As others have said, you don't really notice it from a performance standpoint. It does have a special muffler because it sounds kindof funny when it runs on 4.
