Funny you would mention Chicken Corners--I was actually about to start a thread about that trail.

Not trying to hijack, but I read that the only technical part of the trail is a narrow section near a cliff. For those that have been is it too narrow for a somewhat capable fullsize with an 8' bed and a shell? A rating of 2 makes me think the trail would be fun for the family, but I don't want to take any risks with the wife and kid on board. What do you guys think?

Anyway I wouldn't worry about the crowd too much. Moab seems pretty calm that time of year aside from motorcycles and mtn bikes :)

Remember that EJS starts on the 27th of March. You might get a small crowd heading down before, so I would expect to see a few rigs.

The trail will most likely be empty mid week in March. There could still be some snow and mud in places. The only cliff-edge spot that I can remember is right at the end of the trail, and that part is non-motorized. The trail is pretty much 2-wheel drive most of the way.

It is a very scenic trail with a few challenging spots, there are some wind caves that are alot of fun and you could spend a bunch of time in them. My dad is an official on this trail big saturday every year, we have taken 3/4 ton Dodge diesel on this trail with no damage.

About 3 miles down the Chicken Corners trail from the top of Hurrah Pass is the junction for the Jackson Hole Trail which goes north and makes a scenic 15 mile loop. I would rate it maybe a 3 but it is very scenic and makes a loop far down below the high cliffs that contain the Cliff Hanger trail. Isolated trail that is not used much but worth the effort. Won't see many people along it. Maybe some mountain bikers or a few vehicles. There would be some good camping spots if you want away from the crowds.

I have been with a full-size Chevy that made it through fine, it's not as tight as it looks. You will not be jeopardizing your family at all. And drtsqrl is right about the end of the trail, it's a hiking trail where it's real narrow!

Its a nice trail for an easy day of 4wd. The actual "chicken corner" is a hicking trail that is 25' long. opens up in to a large meadow.

It is a scenic drive as has been said. A few stair steps and then the "Chicken" corner at the end. Great place for kids to get out and climb around. There's a little wind cave place out there too that the old Safari trail leaders (Chip, Dan, Allen) used to setup for an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. Fun place.
I remember several miles in my Son who was about 8 at the time asking me "hey Dad, when do we get to the trail"? I said this IS the trail and he said "AWWWW MAN! No way"!
We had his Mom and little bro and sis in with us at the time.

Yes, it's scenic and one of the first trails I ever did in Moab. Straight forward and easily done with a stock 4 wheel drive. Last time I went out there I let my friend drive and she'd never been on a Jeep trail before.
Agree that the wind caves are fun. Also chicken guts! (sorry, inside joke for drtsqrl)
