Chrome Removal

Is there an easy way to remove chrome from steel wheels? I don't need to strip the whole thing, just around the lip so I can add a weld on bead lock.
Is there a good/easy way to do this?

The best way that I have found is to sand blast it off. It takes for f-ing ever, but it won't wear you out nearly as bad as the alternatives :-\
