Jeep CJ grill on Commando

Hello. We’re building a 72 commando crawler and want to swap the front grill with a cj one. I’ve seen some do it with a cj5 and cj7 is one better than the other or easier? Was going to use cj high line fenders. We’re going to run a 6.0 ls. Thank you for any help and advice.

Same grill for cj5 and cj7. Unless you're talking about 1975 and older. '71 and older cj5 will have shorter fenders because they ran a v6 instead of the straight 6. I would guess you have the longer front frame section in your '72.

Look up my Commando build, https://www.rme4x4.com/threads/the-family-commando-build-project.66704/page-2. You will see what 76-86 CJ fenders and grille look like on a C104 Commando (mine is a 73). The fenders bolt on fine but don't go all the way down to match the Commando tub. I ended up making my own fenders. You will have to drill holes in the tub for the hood hinges but that is not a big deal.

"Back in the day"... a buddy of mine put an M38-A1 hood and grill on his commando. He built tube fenders for it. It looked AWESOME. IIRC, he had to modify the fan shroud part of the grill and make new mounts for it too, but it wasn't that hard to do.
