CJ Wheel Studs-HELP

So... I bought some new wheels for a new-to-me CJ. I knew when I bought the wheels I would need to use a 2 inch spacer to get the proper backspacing. Wheels show up, spacers show up and I am all pumped to put them on and start puttin around the hood.

When I went to put the rear spacer on the existing studs are barely long enough to maybe get 1/4 of the lug nuts on. Which is obviously not safe at all, I know some of you will say the spacers are not safe to begin with but I am running them regardless of your opinion on them. I have done some online research to hopefully get all of the parts I need to start pulling the old studs and put new ones on without doing the 15-trips-to-the-parts-store-to-find-the-right-part-dance.

I found on a few different forums that other people have had the same issue as me and bought a 3 inch stud with a .625 knurl. I may be confused on what they are measuring so here is the first question. The knurl measurement is the diameter of the knurl not the length, correct?

Second after digging around the interwebs I decided to purchase some new studs from Summit Racing that were a 3 inch stud with a .625 knurl thinking that this was the right part. When the box arrived the package says 1/2-20 3 inch stud .615 knurl. So I reach out to Summits Tech department, I ask them if these will fit even though their website says it is a .625 knurl and the package says a .615 knurl. Here is their response;

"I can not tell you if they will fit. As I said, the knurl shows to be .625 according to the info I have. What is the hole size? I show that some J had a .625" knurl, and some had a .673 knurl."

Does anyone know what size hole is on an AMC20 from a 1976 CJ7? Has anyone had the same problem and if you have do you have any idea what part/part number I need? Worst case scenario I head to one of my local parts stores to find exactly what I need but am afraid I will get the part time employee that wants to know what year/make/model I need an EXACT replacement part for and if it has air conditioning or not.

Thank you in advance for helping to solve my problem!

Press out an old stud, take it to Henderson wheel and tire, tell them you need "x amount longer," they will most likely have exactly what you need then and there.

That's what I did with my weird trailer studs after wasting too much time measuring and researching online.

You can use my press if you don't have one.

Thanks, I actually had a few free minutes and went to my local car quest where they would have the knowledge to help me better than Auto Zone (Are you getting the feeling I have very little faith in Auto Zone?) I had them pull a stock wheel stud and then we measured that one, which is .667 and then found a longer wheel stud that worked. Now, I just have to wait until tomorrow for them to get 9 more.

Stratton,I may be texting you in the next few days to use you for your press if you don't mind.

In case anyone ever comes across this same problem, the part number for a rear stud that fits an AMC 20 just about a half an inch longer is 610-287 (dorman part #)
